In my opinion,an empty forge-based map is going to appear in the next DLC.
Think about it:everybody knows how important maps like Foundry/Sandbox were to the forging community in Halo 3 and 343i isn’t limited, even if it may look like it.
They’re trying to maximize profits.
What do you guys think?
Why? The current maps are fine.
Aren’t there already a foundry like forge map on the undergound map.
Bring the classic sandbox map back
> Why? The current maps are fine.
no they’re not.
-
after a certain amount of objects lights stop rendering, the amount varies from map to map so its a map specific problem
-
the terrain isn’t flexible, erosion’s terrain forces a very specific gameplay and that gameplay is bad, ravine has a cut in the actual nice hills it has making it useless because it obstructs everything and impact has a structure taking up the majority of space, the other asteriod is flat so you may as well create your own floor.
-
the graphics are too fancy, i’m getting very consistent unplayable performance drops in split-screen and on fullcsreen BTB maps its going down a little bit which is anoying
-
none of the maps actually provide a large space to build BTB with terrain, you have to completely ignore the maps making them pointless and there is only one map really suited to this and thats impact because of its vast open space, the lighting on erosion glitches to much for BTB maps and ravine is tiny.
we need a good forge environment with new pieces, these current ones are pretty bad, they’re actually worse then i expected.
they should just port forge world, nuff said.

That is an issue with the game itself. New maps will not fix this.

Why don’t you try building on your own, and not having to rely entirely on the terrain?
> - the graphics are too fancy, i’m getting very consistent unplayable performance drops in split-screen and on fullcsreen BTB maps its going down a little bit which is anoying
Again, that is the game. New maps will not remedy this. Sorry to say, but nobody would want to buy a map pack with environments that look like they are a decade old.

Use more imagination.

No. Forge World was garbage. The map was far too large, caused too many frame drops, and too much of the overall terrain was useless outside of Blood Gulch and Ascension remakes.
They should just include sandbox in a future map pack. Not only was it the best forge map to date, IMO, but its base setup that you saw in matchmaking was actually a brilliant medium sized vehicle based map. Those are quite hard to come by.

Sweet mother of God…I thought I was the only one…

oh yea? then how come the amount varies from map to map? that right there tells you its a map specific problem.

oh i don’t know, because we can’t create our own terrain? terrain acts differently then regualar flat flooring, it allows for the creations of maps that can’t work without the terrain because of how the geometry would be set up, it isn’t relying on terrain but utilizing it to create something new and original.
terrain is much much harder to work into a map and utilize well then just creating a map out of flat objects so i wouldn’t class it as “nooby” or “unoriginal” at all but more of a higher level of design.
using terrain also allows for more flexibility and creativity in maps because you have more objects to use since you’re not wasting objects on flooring.

its forge, with forge you create your own environments in which to play on, the default environments don’t need to be extremely fancy as they currently because the majority of it goes unseen and is just a waste of resources on the xbox that could be put to better use.
the graphics don’t have to be very basic, they just don’t need to be as detailed and complex, pretty much a map that is optimized for optimal efficiency like halo reachs forge world, forge world in reach has the best performance out of all the maps and its the largest, its graphics are very good as well so if it was done before it can and should be done again.

oh yes, because the lighting not rendering due to to many objects and tiny spaces preventing the creation of large maps i a lack of imagination…
/sarcasm, it isn’t, its a restriction, restrictions that you have to build and adapt to, these things limit a forgers imagination and don’t require more, more over these environments actually try to build the maps for you which is extremely restrictive on a persons imagination.
“oh, i’ve got an idea! crap!! the map is to small, oh look! another idea! crap, these spaces are being obstructive!!” yea…
They’ve already announced the next three map packs and no forge maps made an appearance. You want empty space? Use Impact. The space away from the asteroids is nearly as big as Sandbox’s grid area if not even bigger. You just have to be smart about it and know where the map’s boundaries are.
Empty space is as blank as you can get.
Anyone who is against this request clearly is trolling and/or hasn’t done any forging themselves.
Making your own floor is possible, but if I want to do that, I can do it in the sky. Therefore, the terrain that is IN the map should allow for us to use it. Also, using your own floor makes the map look ugly many times, and it’s often confusing because everything looks the same.
The maps they give us has no chance for big team battle. We need forgeworld back.
I created an invasion map with killball-shooting-canons that took place over a majority of forgeworld. We had no framerate issues with 16 players. Forgeworld was amazing.
What they should have done was bring back forgeworld and have options for the skybox, and also have options for the terrain (sand, snow, grass) that just changed the texture. Then, you would get then additional items in forgeworld -> Ice patch that you could lay down to be slippery, and Sand dune -> just different size and angled mounds that with phasing, you could put into the ground. Grass hills could have also been an option.
No point in adding a forge map if people have to pay for it. As a forger, I have no desire to spend many hours on a map that can only be enjoyed by a small fraction of the population. What they need to do is expand the default kill borders (impact is almost large enough), this way everyone already has the forge maps.

Agreed.
They should make it free. But, they should have just had it from the start. They dropped the ball.
I doubt any of this will be done though. I think their intentions were there, but they just don’t quite understand the forge community - it shows with the weak maps and custom options. The ported over everything else, they should have just gave us forgeworld, skinning options for it, the new features they did include, and maybe some more items.
There really needs to be. I’d love a redone Forge World.
These maps have too many obstructions. If there’s not a non-deletable structure, there’s very rough terrain that’s impossible to build on. Why…
The people arguing against this have clearly NOT ever forged before…
I don’t think they will busy themselves with adding things besides paid DLC and updates to playlists, but I still feel that these threads are important so that maybe they won’t make such silly mistakes in future games.
They haven’t even responded to the custom game options thread, which is at 90 pages.

I stopped reading at that point. Forge is great the way it is right now. My only complaint is some missing items and ability to do some things with certain items (using phase on land mines, ect…).
Halo 4’s forge is basically Forge 2.1; a noticeable improvement on Reach’s forge.
However, the forge maps 343 gave us are essentially half-built maps, with them telling us to finish them. Because of this, we either have to build their asymmetrical map (with our own personal flourish, yes, but its still theirs), or completely ignore it and build in the sky, which wastes pieces and resources that could go to optimizing the paths and aesthetics of the map.
Foundry and Sandbox were both spectacular because they were blank, symmetrical spaces that could be edited at our leisure.
With the advancements in Reach, Forge World offered a huge play space, a much expanded palette, and several new precision features. But the terrain was difficult to modify for purposes other then what Bungie initially built them for.
Forge in Halo gives us three much smaller, but far more diverse play spaces, a slightly expanded palette, and even more precision features. But the terrain they give us is equally difficult, and doesn’t even have an initial purpose; it’s just there.
In hindsight, perhaps we don’t need ‘blank’ forge maps at all; afterall, we have that in the sky in every forge map. What we do need, however, are symmetrical forge maps; ones that can be easy to build onto and expand.
