I’m really hoping that 343 didn’t tell Traviss to try and write Halsey into being the big bad, Now I’ve heard that some of the other Halo writers were told to show her in a bad.
Common 343. I hope you realise that this isn’t going to work. Most people dont seem to be going along with this stupid raping of the entrenched cannon.
Why are 343 so intent on making Halsey a monster? One of the best parts of Halsey’s character was the morally grey area and the line she walked, which eventually resulted in Humanity surviving.
I’m sure 343 is doing this for a very specific reason. Probably to have some sort of plot twist or revelation later on. Whether it will be a good twist or a bad one though is up to the author. Halsey bashing aside, Traviss is a terrible author.
Edit: Also try to tone down the hate. It isn’t very constructive and only hurts your argument.
Yes it was intentional, 343i has admitted that, but with the added element that she isn’t evil, that she would have her day in the sun. Just not right now.

Yes that was the other part about Frankie’s post, that it was a deliberate build up.

If this is true, I may have to reevaluate my opinion of Traviss as an author. What on it’s surface seems to be a bunch of shoddy writing with no nuance and only one thought process for all characters is actually intentional. We’re supposed to hate KILO-FIVE and everyone involved in order to make the payoff all the more satisfying. Instead of going the usual route of writing them as villains, Traviss instead made them terribly written and illogical heroes. Making herself the real villain in the end.

I think maybe some of the problem with Kilo-5 is that Travis doesn’t always do a ton of research on her subject matter, so her anti-hero story was executed a little less elegantly than it ideally could have been.

Agreed for her novels only. When taken in a wider context from games for example Halsey is heading down a different path irrespective of ONI. She still has most SIIs or Lasky or Thorne or Librarian or John etc. It’s not all down Traviss’ perspective alone.
I’m not a professional writer by any means, but all classes I’ve ever had on the topic of writing have always stressed to know your audience. Writing a trilogy of books that focus on 1-sided hate of halsey despite its primary viewerbase having a much more complex view of her, is failing to do this.
If you’re trying to convince your readers of something, you need to be careful about it. You can’t just have characters pulling hypocritical 180’s, or characters comparing halsey to -Yoink!-’s randomly while discussing something completely unrelated. I thought Mortal Dictata was sort of trying a more subtle approach with Naomi’s dad, but it was too little too late.
Anybody going to take issue with this statement? No? I will then, because comparing an aspect of fiction which you dislike to the vile, scarring and traumatic act is repugnant. A character is being portrayed in a different light from the perspective of characters who do not know the whole story and have been made to see things a particular way, an arc which, I might add, does not change who Halsey is as a character and concludes with the Kilo-5 team recognising that it’s easy to scapegoat one person for an act which required countless others in order to ensure its success.
But no, let’s just casually compare this to an indecent act instead because it’s such a fitting analogy, right?
