Halo5 returns from app switch or sleep with black screen. Music still playing, menu sounds but no game start that I’ve noticed. Nothing escapes this. Killing halo from dashboard or by starting a different game shuts down Xbox! If Xbox shuts down this way in non power save mode controller does not turn off and cannot restart box. Hate to have to uninstall and reinstall 97G on chance this will fix it. Any known solutions?
You should contact Xbox Support on this. Something’s very wrong here if your console shuts off from the dashboard or starting a different game.
You can still restart your xbox when this happens by pressing the power button on the console then resyncing your controller. Or, you can take out the batteries on the controller to kill its power then put them back and use the controller to turn on the console again.
Pretty sure the overarching issue of app switching and console lock ups is known and being looked into. Until more info is out, remember to always completely quit other apps before returning to a game. Was the app you switched to YouTube or another app, by the way?
This is a known platform side bug.
Make sure you are quitting the build of whatever it is you are in before switching.
I’m not sure why you would post this on the Halo forums tho as it is not a Halo issue to begin with.

Posting here because it is Halo that is going to black screen of death, not YouTube. Interesting that there is a YouTube connection though, will see if avoiding that makes a difference, Not sure why you would hassle me about posting here tho when there was no indication that anything but halo was the problem.

I said nothing about YT.

My point still stands:
Platform side issue and you need to quit the build of anything you use. Console shutting down = console/platform, not game/app specific.
What do you mean by “platform side issue”? That this is a general console problem?
To other commenters. Yes I have been using YouTube, tried quitting it before returning but halo still black screened. guess I have to quit halo every time I go to something else. Reinstalling halo not a fix it sounds like.
Ok… it seemed like it was only halo but I tested on Forza and get same crash. So did the last MS update start this? Killing off the older hardware for $$$$? Everything was fine until a month ago, now xbox crippled. Thanks Microsoft…

Yes, it’s an issue related to the Xbox One OS. It is known and being worked on right now.
With that, going to close this topic off
