I honestly don’t care.
Coming from a guy with 100 BPR.

I have 100 BPR to, pretty sure it’s next to meaningless.

Just saying, because guys who want " True Skill" would usually argue that people who don’t want “True Skill” suck.

It didn’t work for crap in H3, but it works reasonably well in H3, especially if you search for similarly skilled players. That’s always been my experience. In the 2-3 times I’ve stopped playing Reach I would come back, have 3-4 laughably easy games, then suddenly find myself playing against people who could actually play. It’s the system at work, and it does work. It’s just not rewarding for players who want to see how good they are in compared to the rest of the player base.

Wait what?

Derp, typo. It works fine in Reach, in H3 it was always garbage.
> The main problem is that CoD implemented a skill-based ranking system on a game that takes no skill to play…
Exactly what im…A noob game whit a numerical ranking system doesn’t hurt…CoD’s destiny is to be a noob game forever.
Well what it comes to be in a nutshell from what i have heard it’s yes the same reach progression system excluding credits for leaving games but besides that you play you get points but if you’re more skilled not rank wise only you get more it all depends on your playstyle remember I only heard this no conformation.
excuse my bad typing.
Wait? Treyarch is actually making a Sequel to Black Ops? I thought they were Joking…
Or is this so called “Black Ops 2” just a Add on DLC?
Because from what I’ve seen, the graphics look the same, and so does Zombies… And the rest of the Game Engine…
Why does the ranking system have to be so similar to H3 where a 50 was even really achievable. H2’s was better because aside from cheaters, no one could get near a 50 because of the way it was set up. Everyone was pretty much lumped somewhere between 23 and 42 at the extreme highest. This to me was better than H3 where 50 was the top limit, and there wasn’t really a way to tell the difference between a good 50 and a bad 50 because they weren’t that hard to get.
In H2, a 33+ generally meant you were a good player. Going in and seeing that, you knew what you were up against. There was a clear spread and this made it very fun for me personally.
There was also a clear bar online you could track and follow to see how close you were to ranking up. Win 5 in a row, you probably had it.
Yeah, you could be carried, but as you got higher up, you needed 4 strong to ever win.
No ranking system, or any system of tracking stats works with boosters or cheaters, so I don’t see any problem with having some sort of visible ranking system.
I know for a fact, without one I will play a whole lot less because I won’t have the competitive itch to come back for more.
This is old news, and who cares about COD. This is halo, save Black Ops for another forum.
Why is it that the same people who say ranks are stupid and people who try to win are try hards and should just have fun are the same ones that say lol COD takes no skill? isnt that what your saying is fun
I love how people bash CoD saying it has no skill but that is basically what Halo has become and Reach was with all the addons that did work for the player instead of the player having to actually have skill to be good.
-
It takes just as much skill to press a button on the controller to call in a killstreak as it does to press invincible armor lock where your teammates come to save you: no skill at all.
-
It takes just as much skill to press a button on the controller to call in a care package as it does to press ordnance drop where you get a random ability / weapon: no skill at all.
-
It takes just as much skill to equip quick draw / sleight of hand as it does to attach dexterity to gain an advantage on an enemy in aiming / reload time: no skill at all.
-
It takes just as much skill to put the damn game in the console, choose a playlist / game mode, and use mods / abilities / and randomization factors that either buff or aid your player where you don’t have to do the work to be good: no skill at all
… I could go on forever, all I’m saying is it’s quite hilarious you say CoD has no skill when in fact halo is on that same road as well and does include random factors that helps a player be good that may not really be good at all without those -Yoink!- or addons supporting them.
Black Ops with ranking can have skill in it. The gameplay for the black ops series is far more balanced than the modern warfare ones and the networking is 10x better as well. In the end if this new league system raises enough eyebrows and hooks players to keep on playing then I hope we can see in halo 5 something similar.

Can you apply this to Halo4’s MLG or Slayer Pro playlist?

It’s kinda true, I’m good but not great and mine is at 95.
Its not necessarily seeing where i stack up in the community that i liked about 1-50. that was nice, but it wasnt what i found most appealing about the system. The 1-50 system made me care about winning games. If a game was 45-45 i would try so hard to do that extra to pull through, if the opposing team won in the last second it was really disappointing and pushed me to get better and play better. With this system I never felt bored or like i completed everything, I loved Halo 3, I played it so much, and the highest i ever got was a 43. Reach bored me, partly because the game play was -Yoink- (from a competitive stand point) but partly because i didn’t care if i won or lost. 45-45 game in reach didnt matter to me, I just wanted to get my credits. I stopped playing halo reach after 2 or 3 months. I played halo 3 for almost 3 years straight. the 1-50 system was one of the reasons me and so many others found halo 3 to be a great experience.

> Can you apply this to Halo4’s MLG or Slayer Pro playlist?
excellent response, you bring up a great point which I have an answer for =) But first a question to you:
Can it be applied to Black Ops and Modern warfare’s hardcore, pure, and barebones modes?
The core areas players mostly play and judge CoD’s ‘no skill’ argument on are the playlists that contain all the random stuff so thats what this debate was about. Barebones is not played by many people sadly, (its found in the PURE section of the playlists for blops) in fact most ignorant responses in this thread probably are from people who don’t even know what barebones playlist is or that it even existed in CoD games for years now. They don’t realize that all the killstreaks, and perks, and weapon attachments (at least in blops) are removed and just you, your standard gun, and the map are left to play it out. Just like Slayer Pro and MLG will be probably like.
For all we know the league system in Blops II will restrict specific weapons or streaks … who knows. All I’m saying is players need to stop bashing CoD so much when halo has the same random stuff in it as well for core playlists snce thats what they are basing thier argument and petty insult at.
I consider myself a halo vanguard. I’m really good at Halo games but I can go into CoD or BF3 and still bring a rain of pain down on players who play those games day in and out. The random factors may suck and be annoying but in the end if you can triumph over them and still win then you are the better player who had skill to win.Halo has now got just as much randomness in it as CoD does so saying CoD is all no skill and Halo is 100% skill is just silly.
If this debate was before the time of reach then there would be no contest. Halo 1, 2 and 3 mop the floor on CoD when it comes to skill. The original halos were arena shooters and were more pure with much less randomness than we see now.
100 percent agree with you mythical. Props for hitting the nail on the head with this one.
The original trilogy were arena shooter, as the series progressed , debatable mechanics and items were introduced, but the series still stayed as an Arena shooter.
What frustrates me is 75% of people playing Halo don’t know or care whether there is or isn’t a ranking system. But of that 25%, 5% despise it and 20% live for it.
Treyarch are going about this the right way if implemented correctly. As long as they have two sets of playlists, Ranked and non ranked. It will succeed. They will loose no players, but will quite possibly grow the population.
I personally play a little CoD from time to time and I am pretty damn good, considering I hardly play it. I also believe I am a good Halo player. No matter what game it is. But the playlists that are the hardest are always the barebones ones. MLG/Slayer Pro and Hardcore. So naturally they should be the basis for competitive play.
Also, other is quite probable for a ranking system or similar to be In Halo 4. Frankie posted on NeoGAF the other night, referring to whether there would be a ranking system
"It would be just as much of an inaccurate statement to say “no” as it would be to say “yes” "
Work that one out!!
