Bit of a Multiplayer Noob

Kind of a basic question…probably doesn’t even matter much these days, but is there any sort of ‘etiquette’ to be observed in online FPS gaming? I didn’t used to game online much, but I find myself liking Halo more and more the more I play it.

My last online experience was back when ‘camping’ in Quake was the major faux pas, and even though there’s commendations for assassinations and points awarded for assists, I’m not the type that wants to run around -Yoink!- off everyone I play with.

Thanks in advance.

Being a courteous player never hurt anyone. But don’t have high expectations for anyone else.

Best would be to just follow a player around the map and try to help him get kills. Running in pairs is a good strategy that even professional gamers apply. Both you AND the guy you’re running with have a lower chance of dying. If one of you dies, the guy who killed you/him will almost certainly die as well.

Just help out your team in any way you can, and for slayer, running along with someone is your best strategy, even if you aren’t very skilled. (Good strategy usually beats skill if the skillgap isn’t too great)

In objective gametypes, it would be easiest to just try to defend your objective. OR, hop into a vehicle and assist your team that way. This is actually a pretty noob-friendly game, to the frustration of many. So you shouldn’t have much trouble finding a strategy that works. Just be creative.

It may also help you to send messages to people so you can develop your own Halo 4 community. I used to pilot the atk heli in BF3 a ton and whenever I got a decent gunner we would go on a run. So if I ever had the gunner seat open i would actively search the guy out and eventually he would get the picture. After the game I’d send him a message saying nice job, thanks for gunning, something like that.
My main point, I guess, is it never hurts to send a “good game” message to someone who deserves it no matter what team they were on.

Only bad kids have to run around together.

Find a nice spot with some cover a pick at people with your dmr the whole game.

Even the “good” kids stick together, that is terrible advice ^.

Also, play CTF or KOTH but never go for the objective. Just stay back and pick off everyone that tries. If the other team gets wise to you or you own team gets mad just quit out and find another game.
