BTSF has been here for good while. No complaints about it, but is 343i gonna keep it in the playlist?
I feel like that will be the case. The gamemode is much more fun than the standard in my opinion
Yes please thanks
I hope so as it is an extremely enjoyable game mode
They’re talking about having it replace BTB as a permanent Big Team playlist. And that’s pretty ridiculous IMO.
If they keep it, that’s fine with me BUT then replace “old” BTB with objective only BTB. BTB slayer is much more fun in the fiesta mode than conventional.
I’ve already suggested several potential compromise solutions to 343i within their Matchmaking Feedback Update Thread, but I’ll go a step further in laying them out and clarifying them a bit further here.
Option 1:
-
Get away from having two Super Fiesta (SF) playlists active at the same time since it creates a certain level of redundancy. They’ve mentioned a tactical experience difference between 8v8 Big Team Super Fiesta (BTSF) and the regular 5v5 SF that’s associated to the REQ vehicles as being one of the primary reasons for maintaining the two playlists at the same time. Generally speaking, this is perfectly fine, but there’s an issue when it comes at the cost of potentially losing the availability of a key core experience within Halo – BTB (and I stand firmly by that assessment). To address this under this option I suggest rotating the regular SF playlist with the BTSF playlist every two weeks in place of each other instead of maintaining both as permanent options at the same time. This will continue to provide both experiences to the user base, but on a rotational basis. I imagine that the BTB playlist would still be impacted negatively when the BTSF playlist becomes available, but at least this should provide an interesting method to gauge just how much of the interest relates to team size verses mode.
-
Most importantly, refresh the BTB playlist with a map overhaul, but go further than just that by also replacing the default Recon H5BR with the Long-Barrel H5BR as it provides the weapon an actual niche area of strength against other precision weapons without turning it back into a cross-map laser. Don’t double weight any of the maps, but going forward do maintain several pre-prepared Big Team maps on the side (looking at past retired BTB maps) so that the less popular/favored maps can continuously be rotated in-and-out on a quarterly basis. That should help to maintain an on-going general level of renewed freshness without requiring a huge amount of time consuming work.Option 2:
-
Again, get away from maintaining two active SF playlists at the same time and like Option 1 refresh the BTB playlist. This time, instead of rotating between two SF playlists simply do away with BTSF as a playlist and add it as an additional mode to the BTB playlist as part of its refresh. Of course, don’t overweight it. This may annoy those who just want to play BTSF as well as the BTB purists who don’t necessarily want to deal with the randomness of SF; thus, some may see it as a lose-lose situation, but if in actuality it returns sizable population to the BTB playlist then IMO it’d be serving a very valuable purpose as it essentially keeps some of the core modes of Halo readily available while also expanding the diverse experience that can be had within the playlist.Option 3:
-
Refresh the BTB playlist as suggested within Option 1 and once again get away from maintaining two active SF playlists at the same time. However, this time I’m suggesting that they instead consider adding some bigger maps to the regular 5v5 SF that includes REQ vehicles as a means to provide that different tactical experience without creating the redundancy of having two active playlists - one of which directly impacts the core Big Team Halo experience. By removing the 8v8 aspect from the SF mode I don’t think it’ll draw as heavily from the Big Team crowd and yet the added vehicular combat to the regular SF playlist still provides some aspects of that new BTSF enjoyment. Sure, this might bum out some who like the extra craziness of having 3 additional team members and 3 additional enemies, but I think a lot of people would appreciate the trade-off being that BTB won’t get turned into a rotational; especially, since losing BTB as a permanent playlist would also mean that there’s no readily available location to earn Assault commendations or a place to play the non-slayer based objectives with all the spartan abilities enabled.Option 4:
-
Pretty much a combination of Options 2 & 3 which adds a variety of experiences to the regular SF and BTB. This might be a little bit of overkill, but at the same time it may benefit both the SF and BTB mode pop wise.Option 5:
-
This one is a bit different then the others as it looks to turn BTB into Squad Battle (6v6) and bring it into the ranked environment. The smaller team size helps gear the playlist for the ranked environment which also happens to lack a limited JiP. And I imagine the maps within would be big team maps that are perhaps a little less vehicle heavy because of team sizes but they’d still feature vehicular combat as a crucial/critical component of the game-play. This would also manage to return non-slayer based objectives to the ranked environment with all spartan abilities enabled. I feel it would draw those who were disappointed in the Core Play playlist becoming rotational and peak the interests of dedicated Big Team players who’d love to earn a rank again. Maybe its best to have this playlist be Magnum + AR starts since it’d be ranked, but maybe its best to have it be Long-Barrel Recon H5BR + AR? Hard to say from a majority’s perspective. Personally, I’d like to see the Long-Barrel Recon H5BR + AR as the loadout.
-
To make way for the Squad Battle playlist in the ranked environment the struggling Elimination playlist should be moved over to the social environment where a limited JiP can provide some assistance. This also ensures that key breakout commendations can still be readily earned.

Once more, removal of one of the two SF playlists is key. This time the goal would be to meld BTSF along with the non-slayer based objective aspects of BTB while doing away with regular SF. The melding idea would essentially add objectives like CTF, Assault, and Strongholds to the BTSF mode to give it some additional experience twists, to provide the vehicular combat even more purpose given their potential influence on non-slayer based objectives, and to provide mode based objective commendations another avenue where they can be earned. This would be a playlist that’s truly worthy of the chaotic mess and fun of SF; plus, since SF is arguably the most popular mode within Halo 5 right now it’s also a fairly ideal mode variant to handle the pop demands of 8v8.I think I may end up sharing this exact optional breakdown on the Feedback Thread.
Unfortunately it’s staying at the cost of the original BTB if the population stays how it is now. If you don’t want the original BTB to go away, either stop playing SFBTB or play both.
Well BTB Fiesta always felt a mess so doubt it would stay around, it’ll probably just be temporary like how modes like Infection, Action Sack disappear for a while, sometimes return so that could mean it could return at a later date.

I agree. Having BTBSF added along side the already permanent Super Fiesta Team Slayer Playlist, would be awesome!

If you read the latest MM Feedback thread, you’ll see that it’s very unlikely that it’s going to be removed and it might even replace regular BTB.
