As you can tell from the title, this is about Big Team Battle, so keep that in mind when I lay down this idea. (Also a bit of a long read since I’ve put considerable thought into this idea, but I made separate paragraphs for you)
I love big team, and I know a lot of the population does too (considering it’s population count).
A neat idea I have, that isn’t probably feasible in H4, but would be cool in H5 would be a mega sized BTB map, think maybe Battlefield series size map.
I could see it being a map where teams of 16 battled one another for a 32 player count. Now that sprint is a default feature, crossing the map won’t be as tiresome as it was in BTB in H3.
There would be a big focus on vehicle combat, considering the size of the map. Vehicle play in Halo has always been fun, and has always worked well alongside the FPS aspect. With a big map we could have many more vehicles.
I for one was kinda bummed that we didn’t get to drive the Mammoth in H4 campaign. In the mega-map there could be 2 Mammoths, serving as mobile command points, just like the Elephants in Sandtrap. It would be pretty sweet also if you could use the mini-Mac cannon, where a player who obtained a target designator (with limited use, 1 or 2 shots seems fair) could mark a target. The cannon could have a slow turn speed to balance it, and if someone was targeted in a vehicle, there could be a sound indicating it and the player could have a chance to dodge.
We could finally have MP pelicans, more specifically the Gunship variant we use in H4 campaign. It could be tough to take down so it’s not a flying deathtrap. There could be only one laser on the map so that the better team could secure advantage early, considering the laser’s destructive capability. The pelican is very powerful, but I think that the fact that it is somewhat slow without boosting, and it’s flying put it at a disadvantage from things such as rockets and lasers, or even a well placed scorpion shot.
The Broadsword could make it into MP too. It would be fast and maneuverable, but have limited missiles to balance, and a machine gun. It would also be a good counter to the gunship pelican. Also I could see there only being 1 Broadsword and Pelican on the map, but have maybe 2 or 3 Banshees so that coordinated teams could overwhelm a Pelican or Broadsword.
Obviously there would be multiple tanks and hogs, maybe on of each hog type, considering their varying roles. There would also be an abundance of rockets. Even though rockets can lock on to flyers, they can be dodged, so having a bunch would work so that unsuspecting flyers could be shot down.
There would also be a couple snipers, but I would take away the anti-armor capability of the current sniper, and add a gauss sniper for such needs (such a weapon does exist in halo lore M99 Stanchion Rifle).
Anyway, those are my ideas, feel free to comment your own ideas, or find better ways to balance mine.
TL; DR----> Halo and it’s variety of vehicles + Battlefield sized map = Awesomeness (imo)
