Big Team Firefight - Thoughts?

I was thinking the other day, “Gee, I really enjoy Big Team Battle. And by golly, I sure did enjoy Firefight. What if they got together and made some magic?”

The pitch: Nothing too special. A 5-8 player team against an onslaught of Covenant forces for however long they can survive. 4 player is nice. Some of us frequently roll 5-6 deep and don’t necessarily want to do BTB, and this would be a nice option.

Want to get crazy with it? Here are some additional things I’d enjoy seeing:

  • Bigger maps to allow for more vehicle play.- Possible Dominon elements (similar to the Horde mode mechanics from GoW3). Buildable turrets, shield doors, a small fortress that you 8 must manage and defend.- Hell, if it was a small fortress, add in the generator from one of Halo: Reach’s oft-forgotten game modes Generator Defense. Give us an actual objective.- Add in more options to really tailor the experience. Vehicle waves, what kind of dropships come in, etc. Do you get resupply every wave? Every round? Never?- More enemies. Let us fight the whole Covenant (Drones included!). Gives us Prometheans. Give us the Flood (pipe dream). Depending on the story, maybe even give us Innies (though I’m not sold on shooting other humans in a Halo game).
    What are your folks’ thoughts? Like it? Think it’s silly? Let’s discuss!

Honestly though, I typically played Firefight alone or split screen with only one friend on the couch. Trying to find ways to take on the challenge alone was a great thrill for me. And in ODST we played almost every challenge solo or 2 person co-op.

But if this were added, I know I’d play it at least a few times. :slight_smile:

Interesting concept. Sounds good to me, so long as the focus is on survival rather than “arcadey” gameplay.

I find that the problem here is the amount of lives needed.

Also, it would be hard to grasp the main idea of Firefight(to survive) when you have many other teammates with you.

If you can find answers to these then you have my support.

Firefight is great for when you don’t want to play a campaign/ops level for the dozenth time. Just tune out and slay… it’s that simple.

Mix them together, and I’d be a happy camper. What’s cooler than a bunch of Spartans fighting the Covies on a big scale?

OP i’d give you a cookie but i am afraid i lost them all.

It would be nice having a horde of spartans against the army of the covenant in an all out battle with vehicles.

Sort of like Halo wars style but from the classic First person view haha

The bigger problems is the network, halo needs to update enemies on every console, that’s why you are more likely to have lag on a 4 player Spartan ops or firefight session than on a 16 player btb session.
I think that’s also the reason for the non existence of the 4+ campaign, I hope the new dedicated servers on Xbox Live help with this… You have to consider every single small enemy as a network/processing/resource consuming AI who needs to be updated across al points… And it has to be done in nearly real time for each of these connection points.

It’s a good idea, the only problem will be the lag

  • Shield doors should be placed in one building so that we always have a safe place to spawn. The turrets should be a little stronger than the ones we are given in Halo 4’s Spartan Ops and Dominion but not by to much. The fortress idea is interesting. If they can place the generators in areas that aren’t impossible to defend then I can see it being really popular but we need classic fight until you die firefight as well
  • Firefight maps have always been amazing sizes for vehicles. Beachead and Lost Platoon come to mind. While big maps are nice, we should still have some of the smaller firefight maps like the one in the ONI Alpah Base.
  • If we are going to have this, then I think ODSTs or marines, maybe even SPARTAN-IVs, should be included in the map like Installation 04 had, only make them actually able to survive a wave without your help.
  • I would love to fight the Flood in firefight! Why not have a three way battle? Humans vs Covies/Promethens vs Flood

Anyone else remember how you could play an Elite in Firefight Custom Games but not in matchmaking?

Let’s bring that back and make it work. 4v4. Or maybe 4v2, seeing as the Elites already have the backing of the Covenant.

That was the greatest. It was so fun to be hunting down my brother or friends while I had Hunters at my back
