"Big Team Battle" renamed to "Cramped Team Battle"

How long until big maps are put into matchmaking? what made Big Team Battle was maps like Sidewinder, Avalanche, Blood Gulch, Waterworks.

With sprinting, thrusting, and clamoring…maps need to be BIGGER.

I was literally thinking about the same thing. Most maps are cramped with very little vehicles on them, making it feel like big team slayer.

The problem is that there are no large enough avenues on a vast majority of the maps. There’s so much terrain variance that driving shoehorns you into a rollercoaster type path.

That is absolutely no fun- and that’s not even getting into the incredibly low height ceiling for air vehicles in several BTB maps.

The problem with BTB now is that it’s an after thought, 343i have openly admitted its their second biggest playlist but they refuse to show it the love and attention it deserves. When you get right down to it there is no Esports coverage of BTB so why should 343i care, I mean they removed Assault from the playlist because MLG and other Esports franchises didn’t like the way it played, it shows just how little 343i care about the community and how much fun they’re having with a game type if they’re willing to pull it for the pro community.

Agree SQUIFFY.

Problem is me and those I play with play BTB 75% of time and Warzone 25%. I like Warzone, but really really miss better bigger maps. As it is, BTB is more like 4v4 with a few more players, too many corridor maps and very little long site lines or open terrains. Remember BTB Heavies back in I think Halo 3? (Rockets, Banshees, Scorpions, Wraiths…all playing together on a big map!)

To me they almost took squad battle (6v6) and pressed into a lot of these BTB maps. Halo was once all about BTB, vehicles, power weapons

Well said, BTB has always been about using heavy vehicles in objective and slayer game types. Wraiths on Valhalla! Banshees, Gauss hogs, scorpions all fighting over control of a single bomb. Ahh happy days.

Who misses BTB Heavies on Valhalla?

this is the problem with sprint

Yay someone finally gets it. I really don’t care if its forged, btb maps should be bigger, like recurve big. That map is a good size.

They need to add a big team battle heavies instead!

Recurve is OK…still too small and congested. Need maps that can handle Scorpions and Wraiths.

Those maps wouldn’t be good in H5. It would just be a ping fest whenever someone moved out in the open. That’s what Viking and Altar (the H3 remakes) are now, but at least Altar has a little more paths for cover. I like bigger maps, but they need to be made with H5’s weapon ranges in mind.

They also need to add more game modes for BTB. WHY are we still only playing Slayer, Strongholds, and CTF in BTB the long after launch? Where’s BTB Heavies? And where are some developer maps?

Second most popular play list yet they treat it like it’s the least popular? Makes sense.

I’m pretty sure if BTB used REQs we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Eww. We already have an unbalanced monstrosity that is Warzone and we don’t need a miniature version of it.

Haha I know. I don’t care for the REQs either but it seems like that or eSports are what it’s going to take for 343 to actually put effort into BTB in this game.

Yeah, that and all the other stuff that’s getting neglected like Action Sack for example.

I miss it more on ragnarok when the mantis was awesome not the marshmellow shooter it is now.

It seems pretty obvious that this is all a result of 343’s decision to use warzone as a replacement for big team heavies, which they certainly knew was one of the most popular gametypes in older Halo games. They wanted to push warzone so they could make money on req packs, and therefore turned BTB into the “cramped team battle” we have now.

In my opinion, this was a poor decision because the old BTB heavies offers a much different experience than warzone. It seems like 343 didn’t realize that, and just said “well they’re both chaotic gametypes with heavy weapons and vehicles everywhere, what’s the difference?” Personally, I would like to see the return of larger maps for BTB in Halo 5, but 343’s incentive to make money from microtransactions gives me little hope for that ever happening.

BTB CTF on Daybreak or Exile was awesome back in the Halo 4 days, seems like we have to go back to Halo 4 in order to truly enjoy BTB… however, there are dozens of spectacular forge maps made for BTB in Halo 5, except we will probably never see them outside of custom games
