Big Team Battle isn't even fun anymore.

Yes, I said it. Big team no longer has any fun to it.

Back in the day it used to be that playlist you went to to go goof off in warthogs, tanks, ghosts, wraiths, and on sandtrap, elephants.

Now, it’s 8v8 on foot. Everyone has a plasma pistol secondary and 2-3 plasma grenades on their hip ready to take out any vehicle that dares take them down.

When did Big Team battle become foot fighting? I mean, foot fighting is a major part of every gametype but even with the operator perk, vehicles just aren’t a feasible means of killing anymore.

Ghosts? If you’re good at splattering, and if you aren’t unlucky enough to float into a crowd of enemies who proceed to all plasma pistol you consecutively and stick you with 4 plasma grenades.

Warthog? As if! The regular turret has been nerfed so hard you can hardly kill anything with a driveby. And you can FORGET that worrying you used to have of a sniper taking you out of the driver’s seat. Nah, they just blow up the whole thing. People just leave warthogs at bases because they can’t do anything with them and would rather fight on foot.

Gauss hog? Currently the only vehicle in the game that can hold it’s own.

Wraith? Pretty good. Averages 2-8 kills a run. Too bulky and slow to really duck behind fire though.

The Scorpion? Apparently that thick 2557 year material can handle less bullets than a Sherman Tank from world war 2.

I mean come on 343, I know you intended to allow players to have an edge over vehicles to prevent ragequitting and lopsided games but you’ve lost all the fun that came with it. I had fun focusing my fire on a tank that wouldn’t go down. Finding a plasma pistol somewhere on the map, EMPing it, and breaking it down.

That was the fun of the game. Now you can just shoot it a bit and it just blows up like it was packed with explosives.

And why the hell are vehicles more in vulnerable when a spartan is in them than they are without any occupants?! Try and blow up an enemy warthog in a ghost and you’ll be sitting there for year, but as soon as a spartan’s in it, it just turns into jelly?

I understand halo isn’t supposed to be a logical game but how is it logical to remove such a key part of the halo experience? What were you thinking? I understand you may be waiting for people to choose their specializations and get their full classes done before you start tweaking the game but this won’t level out.

Operator does nothing but make the EMP burst a lot shorter. You NEVER notice the extra damage resistance unless you’re taking on another of the same vehicle against someone who doesn’t have operator. You’re killing the game, 343.

Halo 5 may be the first Halo I’ll have to ask my friends whether it’s good or not before I buy it. I’ve always been loyal to the franchise even when others spent all their time on Call of Duty. Now where’s my repayment 343? Can you make the game fun again?

> You NEVER notice the extra health unless you’re taking on another of the same vehicle against someone who doesn’t have operator.

For the gazillionth time, It doesn’t increase vehicle health! It just decreases health regeneration time. I agree with most of the rest, people do literally never use warthogs and just leave them outside the base because it’s not worth getting into one.

It’s not even worth playing multiplayer with the boltshot/sticky combo and the DMR cross-map shooters. I just play Spartan ops and if I get bored I go play another game.

They really need to Nerf the power of grenades to where there rocks with little firecrackers used to get your enemy’s out from behind a barrier rather than mini-rockets built by North Korea jammed packed with radiation ready to blow any second. Tone down the power on the boltshot charge and lower the DMR’s power the farther the bullet goes. And if there is armor on a vehicle I suspect it will take a lot more firepower than a sniper shot to the wheel to blow it up.

Yes! Finally, this is what I’ve been telling everybody.

343 needs to desperately fix their game, like ASAP. This is Halo, one of the most community-oriented, if not biggest developer-to-fan games. When that is lost, the community gets -Yoinked!-. The community is currently being shafted and -Yoinked!- simultaneously. 343 is not really listening to anything the fans are saying about multiplayer.

To prove this, I will simply say three things:

  1. There has been no real changes to the problems of the game, like stated in this topic, for example. Only a title update, but I though fixing the more occuring problems were priority.

  2. They decided to make DLC for the game after a month, rather than fix the game first. How does this make sense? Why is anyone going to buy rushed DLC for a broken game? Obvious money-ploy.

  3. There has been no Team Doubles or Multi-Team playlists added, or any playlists the people have been requesting.

Funny, big teams got the highest population 90% of the time and I have a blast in vehicles,

Don’t lame up btb with indestructible vehicles 343, ragnarok is the only map it’s hard to do some damage in a vehicle. And even there I get it done.

splatter happy morons or predictable drivers in general I’m sure have tons of problems but for the most part keep close to your team, flank or support your infantry instead of screwing off alone to die, everything over killing frenzy on my record has come from swapping out burning vehicles BEFORE it blows up, genius right? Or the wraith, such a monster vehicle on vortex

Few things before I comment.

1)We are on the internet kid, and the people from the internet do not have the processing power to read a wall of text. Use short and concise paragraphs and make your points clear.

  1. Don’t talk about fight club, why? Because this is a filler for my second point because I covered them in the first point.

Now, I didn’t read what you said for the above point, but I must agree, I do not have fun at all. It’s either laggy or just bad.

-Personal ordinance ruins the game with too many power weapons.

-Warthog is powerless now, even with wheelman you will get EMP’d and double stuck, and the turret is underpowered.

-Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuultra Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag

-DMR is too accurate and has too much range. -Yoink- bungie for making this weapon exist. -Yoink- them -Yoink- them -Yoink- them.

And the ghost is garbage to splatter with. Jump height and extended radar has ruined splattering.

OP is completely 100% right, and anyone who has played BTB more than 5 games would see it.

You see vehicles parked all game, all game. Unheard of in Halo 3 and even Reach. Only Ghost has some damage resistance, and is fast enough to outrun damage.

BTB is 8v8 on foot, no question. Anyone giving grief to the OP is just trolling.

Everyone should add this thread to favorites and thank the OP so maybe, just maybe 343 might pay attention.

To fix BTB, 343 need to:

  • Remove plasma pistols and plasma grenades from loadouts and put a couple of each on the map.

  • Nerf the DMR so it can’t instantly kill a guy at the other end of the map.

  • Remove personal ordnance drops. Guys camo camping in the same spot all game should not have power weapons drop conveniently into their laps.

  • Slight buff to warthog turret

I’m a vehicle -Yoink!- and unless I’m with randoms I jump in anything that moves, even a mongoose if I got a rocket launcher or something, more often then not 3/4 of my kills are with a vehicle in btb, if anything I consider it rejuvenated since reach , spire and boneyard being some of the worst vehicle maps ever, and hemorage wasn’t worth the time it took them to forge it

I think 343 got way too ahead of themselves when they started this game. They have to do Spartan ops, map packs, etc. With a game that still isn’t even complete. They really jumped the gun and now we’re being shafted as a cause of it.

I play BTB and I get in vehicles most of the time.but I do go on foot aswell just depends how I feel.

Oh no. I can’t be mindless and reckless with vehicles anymore.

BUFF PLZ ZOMGZ

OP edited for readability Thank you for the advice. I am not a kid, however. 18 is hardly kidlike.

A warthog was never intended to be a support vehicle. Stated in many halo articles, the warthog is meant to be a fast attack vehicle. It should hold it’s own against infantry. It always has in games before. It shouldn’t be nerfed.

The tank speaks for itself. How can a fine piece of machinery like that be DMR’d to death so quickly? DMR shots should bounce off it like they’re rubber.

I understand 343 wanting the players to act more like a team but that shouldn’t mean an easy teamshot should cause it to blow up. It’s a heavily armored vehicle. If you’re going to make it so vulnerable, it needs either more speed, a faster rate of fire or more armor. It’s underpowered for how the tank should be.

Why is 343 differing so much from the tried and true formula that is Halo 3? People loved Halo 3 and hoped Halo 4 would be much like it except optimized. Now it’s a step back from Reach, which even MLG players say was a step back from Halo 3.

> Oh no. I can’t be mindless and reckless with vehicles anymore.

I hardly am mindless and reckless with vehicles. It becomes mindless and reckless when you run into rocks and charge into groups of enemies. It’s not mindless, however, when you drive by the enemy group on Exile and get inevitably plasma pistoled and stuck.

I understand the dynamic in Halo 3 and Reach where you’d frag the Warthog to flip it and destroy it or hit it with a power weapon like the rockets, plasma cannon, or the plasma pistol. Now a power weapon (the plasma pistol) is in the hands of everyone who has any sense in BTB. A power weapon, (the plasma grenade) is also in the hands of every smart BTB player.

This formula is broken.

Protip: You shouldn’t be driving past groups of enemies on Exile.

If you know what you’re doing people should be dying well before they have a chance to get you with plasma grenades.

I agree, OP.

I really miss what made BTB, well BTB. Nostalgia aside, remember Halo 2/3 BTB? Very vehicle based, but you had the option to ignore the vehicles and play on foot most of the time. We used vehicles to transport the bomb and flag. BTB was more objective based, and I miss that. Now we don’t:

  1. Have objective gametypes in BTB
  2. If we did there would be no assault
  3. CTF rules are ruined beyond belief. Thanks to the waypoints, no more being sneaky.

Some of the best moments I have from 2, 3, and reach are sneaking around the map to the enemy base to plant the bomb or snag the flag, with a vehicle waiting.

From a HUGE BTB objective fan, who was so excited back in 2004 to get to level 16 in BTB, I really am sad with the state of it. I miss vehicle play. The PP/plasma nade start suck.

BTB is fun. The plasma pistol barely even has any homing effect if the sights are red(the range seems pretty short as well). Seems if you are that close and get teamshot then Y don’t you effectively learn to drive and coordinate with your team. Obviously you shouldnt be able to just drive straight into the opposing team. Just because the game takes a little more skill now everyone wants to cry. Hold on, I’ll call the whaaaambulance for you. I use vehicles constantly…instead of just holding the trigger in the hogs why dont you try to pace the shots in the turret. OMG! A different approach!? Pathetic people can’t seem to grasp this concept of teamwork. I agree personal ordinance is random. The average 25k to 30k of people playing btb cant be playing it because it isn’t fun. Adapt! Just because you win the race to the tank doesn’t mean you should automatically win. 343 dnt pay attention to the whiners. Just fix the custom options and buff the other rifles a little bit to be a on par with the dmr. If you are by yourself then yes you deserve to die. Stick with the team. It is Big TEAM.

1hog vs 8 spartans? Spartans obviously should win. 1hog + 6 Spartans should ruin the other team. Not a difficult concept. Level 16 in btb? Wow lets dumb the game down just for you.

I agree with the above poster with the waypoints and assault. The rest of you. Pfft. Go learn some teamwork.

Why do some people claim that only ‘reckless’ noobish driver get destroyed in vehicles?

I got onyx wheelman in reach’s fragile warthog and could easily top 30+ wheelman medals in a game on Hemorhage. However I struggle to get more than 5 or 6 during the full course of a game on halo 4, dying several times in the progress (plus my gunner dies of course, which means we often end up with a net loss of kills to death for using what is supposed to be a power weapon that requires 2 people to use).

The claim that only reckless drivers get destroyed is totally flawed because:

  • The gun is not powerful enough to kill at any significant range and the driver is obliged to get reasonably close to stand any chance of a clean kill.

  • Even ultra cautious drivers have ZERO chance of taking into account the camo guy crouching with a plasma pistol and/or stickies.

  • Drive as careful as you like, but if an enemy gets lucky with a personal ordnance drop you are DEAD regardless of map control and driving style.

  • Three of the maps (exile, meltdown and longbow to a lesser extent) have very narrow, predictable warthog paths lined with convenient infantry hidey holes.

I’m not gonna quote your 2 page response but when did you ever get the idea that a warthog was anything other then a lightly armored support vehicle? Like the ghost it’s strength mostly comes from its speed, it’s a fruckin jeep with a gun dude, count urself lucky the fuel tank isn’t exposed

30 wheel mans on hemorage? Impressive, I could kill a warthog in reach with dmr fire fairly quick, guess the other team never bothered shooting back,

> Why do some people claim that only ‘reckless’ noobish driver get destroyed in vehicles?

Because it’s true. For the most part.

Vehicles aren’t unstoppable killing machines anymore unless you play their strengths.

Unless you get really unlucky, you can easily get 15+ kills/tons of assists before dying with any of the warthogs. You just have to have a decent amount of situational awareness and know where to go on any given map.

My friends and I are able to consistently get 20+ kills with the Gauss hog on Exile before dying.
