Beyond the Arena...

The Halo 5 Beta has it’s fair share of love and hate, but I feel this is a small snippet of what we’re going to see out of the final game. I personally think this new approach and focus on 4v4 is a step in the right direction but want to know how people will react to the new playstyle of Halo 5 in other playlists…

Big Team Battle is one of the most popular playlist in the Halo franchise, and I’m personally really excited to see how the new ease of movement translates to larger sized maps. I think people will still do the typical flock to vehicles, but I can see the ability to thrust, sprint, and slide being useful for escaping vehicles and making being on foot a viable option instead of sitting around at your base waiting for vehicles to spawn. I think it would be really cool if Spartan’s abilities could have alternative uses as well, such as if you ground pound a vehicle you will board it (Hopefully not instantly destroy it like armor lock did :P). Another example could be when you do the bash dash with the flag in CTF it would be a cool looking instant kill instead of just popping shields.

What are some of your favorite gametypes from Halo’s past? Do you think Halo 5’s new features will fit well with how they were played before? Is Grifball screwed with the thruster pack?! I’m interested to see how people think Halo 5 will be beyond the arena…

Well personally I feel all this movement and abilities are reserved for the arena.

Imagine Halo 4 with one game mode where you had access to the thruster pack, and a few other abilities. No vehicles, no loadouts, just power weapon spawns and BR/AR starts. Now that is what Halo 5 will be, with differences in balance for matchmaking and probably a classic playlist. There may be a playlist for loadouts, and it could be permanent starts in everything else

As long as my shoulder charge can shove smaller vehicles up to a worthog around i’ll be happy. (not asking for it to destroy them. just push them)

I really can’t see loadouts making a comeback again. It was an attempt to freshen the series, but it felt too much like every other game on the market and had a lot of backlash. I can definitely see the inclusion of a classic playlist with no abilities whatsoever, but I feel they would want to keep the spartan abilities in as many playlists as possible to solidify them as the new direction the series is heading. The one thing that confuses me about your post is in regards to the vehicles. Do you think that Halo 5 will get rid of vehicles completely? They are such a staple of the franchise I just can’t see that happening personally.

I do like the concept of shoulder charging a vehicle from the side to throw it off course, but I feel like the splatter should still occur if you try and do this to the front of the vehicle. With the new movement options, it should be easy to avoid the splatter as is. I feel like it would be unfair if a spartan could go head on with a ghost that’s at full boost and still survive.
