Between Halo 2 and 3

So, I played Halo CE and loved it, and ended up getting Halo 2 a bit late due to myself not having an Xbox. Basically, I didn’t get to spend as much time with Halo 2’s Campaign as I spent with CE, 3, and Reach.

I’m a little unclear as to what was going on at the end of Halo 2, and I’m looking for a little insight.

Towards the end of H2, there is a Forerunner ship that Truth is on correct? This is the ship that Chief gets on at the end if I’m remembering correctly.

Where exactly is this ship going? Is this the prophet of Truth looking for the Ark?

Also, I’d like to know why Cortana had to be stuck with the Gravemind at the end of the game.

I’m sure these are fairly simple questions, and obviously I know what happens eventually, but I have a little bit of a hole in the story that I can’t quite remember.

EDIT: I’d also like to know where we are at the end of H2 (where the forerunner ship is). Is this High Charity?

The ship in question is a Forerunner Dreadnaught which was the center piece and power source for High Charity. The Dreadnaught was also a “Key Ship” which is what was needed to unlock the Portal which leads to the Ark outside the Galaxy. At the end of Halo 2 the Master Chief follows the Prophet of Truth to the Dreadnaught and goes with him to Earth which is where the Portal to the Ark was located.

Cortana stayed behind because it was her idea to self destruct the In Amber Clad in order to kill the Gravemind the same way they used the Pillar of Autumn in Halo 1 to destroy Halo. However she got distracted talking to the Gravemind and ended up nearly going rampant, (insane), in the process.

For further reading the events taking place between Halo 2 and 3 are featured in Ghosts of Onyx, Uprising and Human Weakness.

Thank you for this. I do have Ghosts of Onyx, but I think I’m going to read The Cole Protocol first.

Both are really good reads.

While both are good reads, I personally think Ghosts of Onyx was one of the best Halo books. I have yet to finish it, but its really good. It does a good job with character development other than Master Chief.
