Better to upgrade H3 than repeat reach

Does anyone else remember? Remember the hours of quality custom games with friends? Remember when you got a great feeling having four-shotted someone? That satisfaction of finally getting the ever-elusive katana and recon helmet? Why would another game like H3 be bad?

While I concede that the ranking system was somewhat flawed, overall it did its job. did some people boost or derank? Of course! There will always be cheaters who feel good when they cheat a game. the H3 system at least HAD a skill system. When I heard that Reach had departed from visible skill, I was skeptical to say the least. When I first bought the game, I too was blinded by the new, shiny “innovations” like AA’s and the DMR. I soon became disillusioned however when I realized that my “skill” reset periodically. What is the point of working hard for Onyx if I have to repeat the process every so often. But I digress, I didn’t post this to bash Reach; I posted it, rather, to advocate a Halo that returns to the H2/H3 style of play.

First of all, we know that H4 is taking steps forward. We have seen two of the new multiplayer maps, and we know that they aren’t ripped from the campaign. Thank God! I don;t see how the maps could be any worse than Reach, so I think wee are safe in this department.

Secondly, another spot of good news - the return of the BR. As long as it maintains its H3 status as an awesome weapon that requires skill, I will be happy. Unfortunately, this brings up the problem of bloom, which, as of now, seems to be absent. We can only hope that this will continue.

Now for the not so great news, sprint. I know, we don’t know enough as of now to form informed opinions, but I am opposed to it nonetheless. When I first saw someone run at me while I was shooting them in the face with a DMR I thought “wow, this kid’s an idiot”. However, when he preceded to sprint to me, hit me twice and kill me before I could land that last shot or get the beatdown, I was awestruck. In what world does that system make sense? There are enough sprint threads out there, so I’m not going to comment any further.

Now on to the future. What would you like to see happen in H4? Do you think that if it was a H3.5 it would be terrible? I personally would like to see an awesome forge mode, multiplayer ranks, and the return of those awesome custom games everybody loves. I would love to hear some opinions on the upcoming game. What innovations would you all suggest?

TL;DR: H3 was an awesome game, and we should return to its simplicity rather than venturing off into unknown territory. If it isn’t broken, why fix it? discuss and suggest innovations.

I’ve been saying that this game needs to be based on Halo 2 and Halo 3.

It won’t be the same, if you thought that you’d be stupid. But this series honestly needs a Halo 3.5, no matter how awkward or ‘CoD like’ that may sound.

Why can’t it be based on Halo 4?

Right

I agree. When Halo three came out, it was so awesome. It was really original and nuanced, unlike many other games on the market. Reach was the biggest disappointment for me in the last several years.

> Why can’t it be based on Halo 4?

Most players nowadays are ones who started with Halo 3 and think it’s the greatest thing ever (fact: it’s not). They won’t accept anything else.

Elements of all Halo games should be in H4 with H4 being it’s own game at the same time. But I get it, in fact a lot of Halo 2 and 3’s styles should be incorporated into Halo 4. Bu at the same time Halo 4 needs to define itself. Good or Bad.

Halo 3 was not TEH BEST GAEM EVAR!! It was an awesome game, and you’re right some people are close minded. I want H4 to incorporate about 50% H2, 40% H3, .00000000001% Reach, and 9.9999999999% new and interesting innovations. Reach’s problem was that it was 90% Reach and 10% other, so it failed utterly.

Halo 4 hasn’t been made yet…

Are you serious? Don’t you understand that Halo games have to be based on… past Halo games?

I could accept an upgraded Halo 3. So long as the weapon pallet was a bit more balanced. I went back and played some Halo 3 the other day and forgot just how monotonous it could be.

That .00000000001 % better be my JETPACK. Or else there will hell to pay!

It was a whole lot better than reach that’s for sure

Yes, this is somewhat true. I personally never got bored of the BR because there is always someone better than me, and I found it fun to test my skill on other people. However, at times it did seem like the BR was a mandatory weapon. No matter what i carried it was always X weapon and a BR. I have to say that the Spartan Laser was the single most awesome thing ever, and that it and I are super mad about what it has become in Reach >:(

And that, my friends, is how the -Yoink!- started. “Oh, just wait and see, the nazis aren’t hurting anyone, they said that the new germany will be so much better. You elite people just shut up, you are obviously stupid because you complain. The government obviously know what is best for us”

If we don’t complain and discuss now, it will be too late later. The same thing happened with Reach. Sensible people saw that things like bloom and AA’s would ruin the game, tried to speak up, and were stifled and squelched by people who think that progressiveness=goodness and only goodness. We need to address these issues, not sweep them under the rug.

Sorry, realised to late that this was actually an intteligent thread that wasnt hating on reach or sprint. I saw the title and snapped. These sprint posts are driving me up the WAALLLLL.

Back to OT: Yeah, i kinda of agree, it should be based off of all the good aspects of past halo games, but there really isnt anything we can do about it now.

>

I get where you are coming from. Far too many threads are created to flame Reach and basically say “i told you so”. All opinions need to be seen and considered not just the: REACH SUX GUYZZZ and the WE <3 REACh viewpoints.

I know, and i dindt realise this was an actually useful thread. But it already is to late. They cant really take out the changes now that the game has been in production for three years… And as for the -Yoink!- thing, i just mean wait until we have more info, not til the nazis are breathing down our necks with lugers to our heads.

Yet how can you judge their implementation in a different game whose gameplay we have not even experienced? Those people complained about all the features after the beta when they could make an informed decision. We won’t get that opportunity since Halo 4 will have no public beta. However, complaining about the features now with no experience is premature.
