The title says it all. We need better in-air strafing ability in this game.
How many times have you gotten that “dead air” feel, where you jump, bounce off something or bump into something, and loose all forward momentum, leaving you unable to move until you fall back down to earth? It happens to me all the time, and it’s real annoying.
You can counteract this with the thruster pack, but I don’t wanna have to waste my ability to move forward slightly.
Older retro-shooters and arena shooters have massive air-strafe ability, with Quake allowing you to jump and strafe a pretty big circle before you hit the ground. I’m not saying Halo should be as mobile as Quake, but air strafing is something desperately needed with Halo 5’s increased verticality and mobility. Plus, it would add a whole new level of skill to the game, with something difficult like bunny-hopping now being very effective against low aim-skill players.
Also, the Spartan armors have thrusters all over them. You can see them while hovering while ADS, or before ground pounding. If the Spartan armor is covered in mini jet packs, why can’t I use them to better air strafe? C’mon 343, the lore demands it.
In real life, you can’t just strafe in midair. Its impossible for the same reasons that double jumping isn’t realistic. As for the thruster jets, those are only used for stabilization, thrusting, and ground-pounds while in the air, and the system is exhausted easily (you can only stabilize for a few seconds and thrust has a recharge time) because Mjolnir armor is extremely heavy in cannon. So while losing momentum in the air may be very annoying, it’s also pretty realistic.
We have more on-air control than ever with the Thrust ability, plus Stabilize, and manipulating Ground Pound thrusters without fully charging them. If that is not enough, perhaps you need to focus on better control over your own movement flaws, i.e., don’t jump and bounce off of stuff. ; )

You also use the thruster packs for sprinting, which can be done indefinitely, meaning your suit has a lot of juice.
Also, realism isn’t a good argument when a pistol has better range than an assault rifle and battle rifle, and does more damage per-shot. Screw realism.
I would rather not see any more gimmicks in Halo. The mechanics are fine as is IMO, except Spartan charge. They should make it so you can’t charge some one while being shot.

Realism isn’t a good argument because your a 7 foot tall genetically enhanced super solider in a giant green robotic suit fighting aliens in space .

not really a gimmick, as older games had this feature. even older halos had some air-strafing. it really only stopped with more “realistic” games, like COD and Battlefield.
as for the charge, just make it cost thruster pack energy, so you have to commit to your attack, instead of smashing into someone, then immediately backing up with thruster pack and headshotting him.
The thruster pack in halo 4 announcement trailer was used for moving in space conditions… and in the prologue as a method to land from high altitudes. In the halo 5 first mission cutscene it was used for mid air navigation… all of which I feel like is fitting and make sense for a spartan. However, using it to sprint, charge, groundpound, and hover seem a bit over the top IMO. Maybe a slightly higher jump with the thrusters…
and that is just looking at from an engineering perspective. As for gameplay, I think it would be fitting for the same purposes I presented… I think the idea of less mobility while jumping is the whole point of the risk of it.
So we reward those who needlessly jump in gunfights? By jumping you are a harder target for a split-second, but you choose this by sacrificing mobility in other directions. I think adding this would cause matches to be a whole bunch of people hopping all over the place. Please no

People don’t bunnyhop not because they can’t move, but because they can’t aim.
If you can keep on target while jumping, then you’ll win regardless of in-air strafe ability. More in-air mobility won’t increase the amount of people jumping because most people can’t keep adjusting their vertical aim every time they jump.
