Whats the deal? It seems like any time I pick up a power weapon I have to watch out for my team mates as well as the opposition, especially on BTB. I can’t even count the number of times I have been betrayed by a team mate when I had the sniper or spartan laser. It is extremly frustrating, not to mention it hurts the team. If anyone only wants to use power weapons there are playlists for that, why not play Snipers, Grifball, or Action Sack?
The mad rush for power weapons is one of the reasons I quit slayer and switched to playing SWAT. Nobody is going to betray me for my DMR or spam frag me with a grenade.
Yeah, its something dispicable that in my opinion, needs to be ended by force. Every Halo has supported this with keeping friendly fire on. I know that if Aa’s were turned into equipment, people would kill you for those too.

Yeah, but once you pick up a AA, you can’t take it off.
So…
IDIOTS ARE IDIOTS!
I’ve gotten attacked late in the game too, and I have to admit that at times, I gave into the hate, and chased them around, knocking out their shields or tipping off an ambush…
Other than putting them on the avoid list, there’s not much you can do.

Meh, betrayers will do just that, just like haters will hate. It’s what they do best. Yes, it does drive us ALL Nutty, but if we didn’t have them we would Might not be pushing 343i to get a better boot system would we???
Just like in Cyber Security. If we did Not have those Black Hat Hackers, we would NOT be Anywhere Near as strong and paranoid about security, OR AS GOOD, as we are today!

I know what you mean…If they keep following me just taking my shields down, if I’m really angry, I’ll blow their ugly heads off with my sniper, they usually stop once I kill them once…but I hate betraying people.

Simple, in their minds they Are better at it than you, and if you somehow manage to Prove them wrong they shout something explicit at you.
Although my favorite happened in Halo 3 action sack. I was lagged Actually on to the other team. Odd yes I know, but it did happen. Anyway, they saw that I was with my friends still and when I grabbed the shotgun they betrayed me. Well, being mad about it as anyone would, I dropped a couple grenades, they were greatly wounded allowing my friends to kill them.
After they chewed me out saying I cheated because I helped the other team. I told them: “well, you Are the ones who betrayed me. That actually qualifies for complaints and what not, so do you Really wanna go down this road” They shouted nerd and a few other things…Gotta love to Hate the ignorant self-centered individuals.
BTB is the worst gametype for betrayals, even worse than Living Dead used to be. Pick up a sniper - betrayal. Get in the wraith/revenant - betrayal. Get into the driver’s seat in a hog when two buddies are looking to drive each other around - double betrayal. I get most of them kicked since their presence is worse for the team but on occasion I’ve gotten betrayed over six times by one person with no option to boot. I doubt I was the only target they concentrated on that evening.
Simple booting rules:
If X betrays Y n times, n <=3 then Y gets to boot X. n varies on recent betraying history.
If Y betrays X but less times than X has betrayed Y then X has no option to boot (revenge/“smack” betrayals).
I don’t understand how 343/Bungie arrived at a system where I can get betrayed six times with no betrayals from me and I get no option to boot. Or where if I get betrayed three times, I can get booted after betraying somebody once. In BTB, accidental betrayals happen - I stick a tank, my teammate decides to launch himself at it; I fire a wraith shot, some hero in a ghost decides to rush the revenant I’m aiming at etc. - but it’s pretty easy to identify grievers on paper.
Another option is to add a “smack” feature where you can immediately smack down any fool who betrays you. This works well in other games and prevents people killing you for weapons/vehicles.
It happens a lot during the start of games. Now its starting to happen if you are on a losing team. Down a few kills you tend to see a player camping a power weapon. You somehow spawn or get to it and then are betrayed.
i find it really annoying if a bad player takes a power weapon in a situation where a better player… (at the risk of sounding super arrogant)… me were to make better use of it, however i never betray deliberately.
i guess it all depends how serious you are about winning games, and if that is the case, don’t go into games with randoms… simple as.
play with friends and then you all know what your roles are or whatever and control the power weapons that way.
Yeah today this guy kept throwing grenades at me every time i got in a tank
I’ll just say that even though I HATE weapon-betrayers, what i think is worse is -Yoink- betrayers(ppl who just betray for a vehicle, THEN DONT GET IN!). I remember playing in a forge map with a few teammates, I(along with a few others) hop in a falcon, then this idiot teammate comes in and smacks the driver, DOES NOT get in, then the next driver comes in… SMACK! and ends up betraying everyone on the falcon. I hope they DO add the ‘smack’ feature in.
I will betray someone if they have a power weapon, but aren’t doing anything for the team. Or if they are hogging. Sniper Rifle + Rocket? Really? Driving around a Ghost, getting splatters while you have a sniper rifle on your back? Hiding in the back of a map with the Sniper Rifle, only getting 1 kill every 5 minutes or so?
> I will betray someone if they have a power weapon, but aren’t doing anything for the team.
What you’re doing there is dumb and annoying. Even bad players should be able to pick up power weapons without getting betrayed by “133t” players.
> Driving around a Ghost, getting splatters while you have a sniper rifle on your back?
This example makes more sense although asking the player to bring the weapon back would be the proper way to behave.
> Hiding in the back of a map with the Sniper Rifle, only getting 1 kill every 5 minutes or so?
This depends on the context. A lot of BTB players pick up the sniper, hide in the back and use it to pick off the other team and get a high K/D. This is dumb and selfish (even in Slayer) if the opponent’s wraith is active since it will zoom around killing the sniper’s team. The priority is to take down the wraith, opposing sniper, and then have fun popping melons. Phnar.
I never really have this happen. Maybe you guys are just getting -Yoink- teammates. One more thing a 1-50 ranking system would probably help.
One of the earliest btb betrayals I had I was with my brother on hemmorage, and as soon as it starts I get in a wraith and some -Yoink- hole on my team betrays me and takes it. My bro kicked his -Yoink- with his revenant and that was the end of that.
Today however it was btb heavies and as soon as I got out of my spawn point building a teammate splaters me with his ghost, he was rocking that full throttle, and it wasn’t as if there was anything he could have gotten to where he was going. That was clearly on purpose, and if it wasn’t it was poorly thought out. He could tell I was right in front of him yet he boosted into me anyways. Needless to say I booted him, and still won the game.
Either vehicle, rocket, sniper, yoink, it doesn’t matter. I was in a game of btb heavies on Rasu and while the game was loading up some kid was asking me why I was an idiot. I was going to betray him as soon as the game started but I just smacked his face and continued on my merry way. He had 1 kill that game and 4 wheelmans, but after the first 2 minutes he boosted along with his ‘friend’ second controller most likely. 3 people left on each side so it was 5 on 5, and with him and his afk controller it was 5 on 3, not in my favor, final score was 89-87. He probably would have booted me, in fact I’m sure he wanted me to act like an ‘idiot’ so he could prove that he was one. Off topic I know. I miss teamwork from Halo CE, people didn’t rage if you took a sniper, they made do. I wish friendly fire was turned off.
This is why I never go after power weapons/heavy vehicles at the beginning of BTB matches. However it is quite satisfying to kill the betraying -Yoink- with the weapon he was trying to kill you for. Or to waste it’s ammo with him as the witness.
I think the booting system should be slightly altered so that if a betrayal happens within the first 30 seconds (Or first minute perhaps?), it should let you boot them. Because usually that betrayal is over a power weapon/vehicle rush. If not at least change it to that for BTB.

Really? I can’t even get a teammate to drive the warthog for me. And you think one is just going to happily hand over the Sniper Rifle? Even if he did, we’d have to go walking around looking a weapon to trade with. You can’t drop weapons in Halo.
I agree with you on the Sniper taking out the wraith and priority targets.
People in Reach tend to be brain dead morons where they feel entitled to have a weapon over/item over anyone else. I just leave everything where it is and use the weapons I spawn with. That somehow still gets me betrayed though. Guess people feel entitled to my ammo as well?
