Betrayals for power weapons

Is there any recourse for the players that kill their own teammates just to steal their weapons from them? If I kill them because they are attacking me, I get a betrayal and then when they respawn they attack me and if I kill them again I get booted from the game. But if I just take it, well that hurts my stats and ruins the experience. Is this just accepted, or is there a method to punish those that do this?

There isn’t any immediate recourse. If you are allowed to boot after one betrayal, then accidental kills would be punished and abused. The best course of action if you get someone who is toxic enough to betray for weapons is ignore them.

If they start shooting you for the sniper, just empty it into the ground. If they keep betraying you, the system will eventually allow them to be booted. It’s been an issue since day 1 of Halo and just one of the hazards of joining team matchmaking as a solo player.

Hey thanks for the idea of emptying the arsenal so the sniper/rocket-launcher is useless, I’ll remember that, because it has happened to me on both of those weapons, but it also happens with the sword and there is no recourse in that situation because I kill them, they respawn, damn near kill me again, so I take them out, then get booted.

The alternative is to try and bait them into betraying you twice. Then you get to boot that “player.”

Play FFA
Your main objective is to kill people that have power weapons
OR
Play Infection where friendly-fire is turn off as a default.

When this happens I just make it my goal to betray them until they boot me. At that point there is no reason to stay in the game anyway.

I’m also very annoyed when they betray me for weapons. Sometimes, they even do it when I care the flag. The problem in Halo is that players can betray many times before the exclusion’s option is available. And even there, they just have to kill those wounded by the enemy, that won’t be considerate as a betray. They can even hurts their allies and wait the enemy to finish them.

For answer to your question, if someone betray you, hurt them until ennemi finish them or until they betray you for that you can boot them

I made a topic about betray months ago to propose solutions and I was surprise to see the number of players who prefer to stay as we are. I think that increase the penalties for example could be a good idea : score -1 and longer reappearance time for every betray (even accidental, so players will learn to be more careful)

I also made a video compilation of betrays to show how it can be annoying :

Betraying for weapons is a halo tradition. Your best bet is to record. Dont use Xbox rep system, use the 343 ticket site.

Didn’t know this was a thing, thanks!

I never really understood why Bungie/343 even allowed betraying to be a part of the games. Why add a grievance factor to be abused

In a perfect world, its good because it forces players to not be reckless with things like rockets, grenades, etc. having a score penalty for not bein aware of your surroundings makes the game more strategic.

unfortunately people use it as an opportunity to ruin the match for people.
