It’s getting pretty annoying, and frequent these days. I would say 2/5 games I enter in an hour has at least two idiots hell bent on team killing, not for the purpose of stealing your sniper (because they feel entitled apparently), or to take a vehicle (only to be blown up by a laser five seconds later)…but because they suck (generally rank less than a captain), or they’re trolls.
It’s truly astonishing at the lack of knowledge of others in trying to deal with these fools…most people I’ve seen will turn around and kill the TK, only to be booted. Leaving in many cases, the troll and myself, vs. 8 opponents.
I’ve found, on average these idiots are really quite stupid, and all you have to do is throw a grenade close to yourself, lose your shield and then wait for them to either shoot you or melee, and then BOOT. That works 98% of the time.
The other 2% of the time, they don’t shoot or harm you, but insist on jumping on you, tailing you everywhere you go, or driving you in a vehicle directly to the enemy, and just sitting there for you to be toast…
That’s great and all, but in these times of difficult server lag (really bad lately, I’m running a cable connection directly to my Xbox–meaning it sure as hell isn’t my fault)–to be stuck with the black screen every 2 minutes because someone lashed out against a troll and got booted…REALLY SUCKS.
Ya betrayals are pretty bad in Reach. There was a daily challenge a few days ago for getting 3 kills with the Rocket Launcher in a single game and a lot of the games I entered had lots of people betraying for the rocks just for the challenge which was like 1000-2000 cRs. If I ever get betrayed and I can’t boot the betrayer I just quit. I don’t want to be on a team where people are doing that crap.
I’m just glad betrayals were removed from Living Dead. Binning the boot option was the worst decision ANY company could have any made. it’s not limited to 343’s biggest mistake. It was one of video games WORST IDEAS.
Who said it was limited to little kids? That’s always the fall back answer to every complaint of poor sportsmanship in the console community (PC person here), and frankly–it’s a lame excuse.
I’d say 40% of the time it’s children doing the betrayals, a lot of times, it’s actually puberty stricken teenagers and even a few times, college kids who are skipping class “to hang with mah brahs brah.”
Yes. Well the betraying in Halo has almost always been like that. Its just something that comes with Halo. As for challenge I think there would be a few less betrayals if they didn’t make challenges connected to a specific power weapon.
I know there’s been ample posts written on the topic of sniper hogging, and betrayals to get the sniper…I find more often than not it’s self appointed snipers in the Field Marshal-Reclaimer range who do this…
Regardless of the daily challenge…
What I really hate is when other people try to instigate between me and a TKiller. They’ll betray me once, and I’ll pop their shield in response, and I’ll get the blame for “shooting at team mates” and even run over/killed by other team mates…
I don’t have a mic, so until I get one, I’m helpless…I usually end up in the 16-25 kill range in BTB, so I let my kills do the talking, while the idiot who betrayed me if he isn’t booted by someone else, usually scores 8-12, all with the sniper…camping in Hemmorage near the spawn point.
Betrayals were never as bad as they are in Reach. I had one BTB game yesterday were one guy kept shooting my Wraith with his Ghost which ultimately got me killed, but at least I got to kill 4 people. I also got betrayed for the sniper, and not once was I able to boot him, I didn’t even hit him he just came at me, shame.

Teens and college kids… those are all kids. Little is relative.
> I believe they need to make betrayal booting enabled in grifball
That wouldn’t work, half the team would be kicked out of the game after the first “clash” for the bomb in the beginning of the game
I rather see friendly fire off for social playlists, since they’re social and fun, while competitive/ranked/arena playlists should have friendly fire on, since in competitive you should be punished for playing bad and betraying.
And no, sticking a teammate and having him run with a nade is not a plausible excuse neither a good strategy. Friendly fire is the core of the issues, and only an issue in social.
I totally agree. The past two months has just been painful. I never used to quit out of a game because I didn’t want to be that guy. Now I get betrayed multiple times a game without the option to boot. I find myself quitting a few times a day. I love the game but I’m losing faith in our community.
If it’s on purpose I boot, if I can’t boot I play. If someone shoots me repeatedly on my team because he wants to boot me I’ll avoid him, or smash his -Yoink- and take the betrayal boot with pride.
It worked out for my benefit the other night. I was playing BTG with friends (advantages to big parties and lots of online buds, huh?) and almost every match we had guys on the other team betraying one another. LMAO!! We won like 15 straight matches…too bad I was playing as a guest on my neighbor’s console. Oh well, we have many of the same friends so it works out great.
Friends and parties are the bomb, guys! Then this BS doesn’t happen to you.
Some of the worst betrayers lately are just trolls that are inheritors with second accounts. I cant flame players in the forums so it stops me from posting names and outing them but i personally know of 9 inheritors who have second accounts and just now spend their time trolling BTB and stuffing up peoples games. They are easily indentified. They are usually no higher rank than a captain. They have a small amount of commendations in MM only and a very low gamerscore of less than 500. I have asked a few why they do it and most have said they are now bored with the game because there is nothing left to achieve since they became an inheritor.

That’s FPS for you, this -Yoink- doesn’t happen in RTS.
A more civilized bunch they (myself included) are.
