Ok I’ve tried to get an understanding of this over at the Bungie.net forums with no availing answer so I’m laying it on the table here…
Originally during matchmaking, if you were betrayed by a player you were instantly given the option to boot the offender. You had a few seconds to decide if the offender made a honest mishap during the game, eg. a stray frag, or if their offense was truly a deliberate act. Personally I think this system worked. It made for better play as one had to be careful not to harm their team mates and it allowed one to be rid of the mean spirited or clumsy repeat offender.
However, things have changed. Now, you can be deliberately betrayed. Say for example a team mate decides to kill you for a weapon in your possession, and each time (at least in my case) one is not given the option to boot the offender. I’ll say that again, I have never in the last month or so been allowed to boot a betrayer.
I have been told that now the rule is a player has to betray twice before they can be booted, however I don’t know if this is true.
What ever the case, I believe the current betrayal/boot system is flawed and makes for a greatly negative play experience for the reasons I have mentioned.
So, does anyone know what the actual rules are now. I’d be most grateful if someone can clarify for me. Oh and of course, feel free to add your thoughts.
I have noticed this and totally agree with you, I guess they might have switched it because for some terrible someone thought it would be a good idea to have the boot button the x (button) which is also the button you would use to switch your class. This can lead you to accidently screwing over your whole team cuz if someone accidently betrays you , you might just react (trying to get back to gameplay as quick as possible) and boot them when you really just want to change your class or watever - hope i explained that clearly enough :s
anyways the twice betrayl now totally LAME
I had noted that after over 700 competitive games, especially including Action Sack and Grifball and also Big Team Battle. They set the betrayal and two or three in a game. And they also count betrayal boots or lagging out of games as quitting. Because of the class choosing option having “x” as the boot button is not exactly the best set up of a controller. If they changeed the button for booting in an update and removed the repeating offender to an original offender the game would move smoother, except that there are people who would very much so love to just boot people. Will antagonize them until they get killed and boot them. They abuse the ability. I believe that betrayers should not be booted by players but by the server. If the server deems they are killing teammates for no due cause and/or on purpose then they would be booted and there would be no abuse of it whatsoever.
I don’t agree that it is a two betray system. I get killed over sniper all the Yoink! time! Usually I will just go avenge myself and then they get the boot option automatically! It’s super obnoxious to have some AR you to death take ur weapon but then if i do the same I get booted from game, it’s a total lack of fairness and balance. Also why isn’t the game able to get that at a beginning of the a match before a enemy even touches i get AR to the face and die that it wasn’t intentional? Bungie is pretty worthless in some aspects.
My only remedy to this situation though is continually following the person around taking out their shields with pistol until the opposing team kills them two or three times.
I have just been to the Bungie.net forums and threads of the same topic are in motion. Just wanted to reiterate a suggestion from there which was, how about getting rid of friendly fire all together?
It’s a drastic measure and it will fix the problem but I don’t feel it’s the best solution.
Here’s another idea snapped up from the Bungie forums…
The idea is to give a progressive credit deduction/penalty for betrayals. For example…
1st Betrayal - 1000cr
2nd " - 2000cr etc…
OR
1st Betrayal - 25% of cr earned in game
2nd " - 50% etc, etc…
This might work. It is at least a good idea to expand/improve.
I would add GIVING A BONUS to the person betrayed as COMPENSATION.
Another suggestion is to place a ban on repeat offenders much in the same way quiting is penalised. Or throw the two in the mix, #quits + #betrayals = banning.
LETS GET IDEAS OUT THERE FOR THE HALO MASTERS TO CONSIDER SO THINGS CAN BE IMPROVED ASAP.
I find another kind of betraying even more annoying…like the kind of betrayers that will just give you a gentle WHACK in the face to knock your shield off, and keep doing it constantly, so the enemy team get easier kills.
or in firefight when your like sitting on the covi drop ship and someones pissed that you got to that spot first so they shoot you with a rocket which obviously cant kill you but sends u flying off into a mass of covi’s - -Yoink-
So far, I’ve read about this topic only on this website. I prefer the original betrayal system. I agree 100% with x x SCORCH x x’s ideas about this topic.
I think the game itself should boot people after two times in a match. Sure, we all accidently do it sometimes twice in a match, but it is the best thing I can think of.
> Is it true that a player can only be booted once they have committed a betrayal twice during a game?
>
> Do you prefer the current betrayal/booting system or the original (see first post)?
the betrayal booting system could definitely use some tweaks. im pretty sure its more the number of times you betray someone and not the damage you deal to them.
i say this because, in halo reach, i had someone shoot me with 2 full human turret clips before they accidentally killed me. when he ended up killing me (to take the sniper i picked up off of his dead body) i was not given the option to boot.
As of now, the betrayal system in Reach is broken. Im not a Halo veteran but I jumped on the bandwagon with Halo 3 (although I had played Halo 2 in the past) and I never experienced the frustration I experience now with Halo 3’s betrayal system.
For example, I was playing squad slayer today on Boardwalk and off the spawn I get the sniper. Naturally, I get betrayed for said weapon and not given the option to boot. I used this opportunity to test the system. I find my own killer and proceed to kill him. I also do not get booted. As expected I am soon betrayed again by the same person and not given the option to boot. I then kill my killer again, lo and behold I get booted.
Let’s review: I get killed for my weapon and then killed again, no option to boot.
I kill twice in the name of science, and quickly get booted
343i needs to fix this or rework it for the next Halo game because amongst Reach’s many many flaws, the broken betrayal system is one of the most prominent. Hopefully if this issue gets enough attention, 343i will fix it.
