Betrayal system is crap

So i can get intentionally betrayed when protecting our flag but when he tries to do it again and i kill him I get booted!!!? when he killed me and it says betrayed i never got the option to boot him but he can boot me after my first one?? WTH

I understand your pain, happened to me; iv been there before, just hang in there and kill the noobs anyway. I get satisfaction out of it, but you don`t have too.

either it needs to be off or they need to set an in stone limit every game. hell, any more than one betrayal and you’re just not being careful at all. one for forgiveness, but two gets the boot. shouldn’t even need the option… it should just BE.

You got booted because you “revenge” killed. Even if it was self defense, the stupid game can’t distinguish it. Halo 4 was released with friendly fire disabled. Everyone whined and cried because team killing was off. Going back to Reach, there was a reason it was disabled. The community is simply too immature to be given the responsibility of keeping teammates alive and playing nice. Friendly fire should be once again disabled. The community is still immature and probably won’t change. The only other thing would be to start banning for rampant betrayals. They can track everything else, why not betrayals.

Well, they are still accidental betrayals.

A good solution would probably be to match people together that are constantly betraying or simply turn off friendly fire in all playlists like stated above, even though that would take away some strategic thinking.
The actual problem is not the system, it is the people.

Pretty much I hate people who betray. We got a game to play and their too busy crying over a sniper rifle.

I often wonder why most can’t just play the game.

It’s simple, it needs to be turned off, people whine and complain about it being off, so it gets turned on, but when it’s on people still whine and complain, but i understand your issue, I accidental betray people if they step in my way, happens sometimes when I use the sniper and an unlucky team mate with his shields down gets in the way of my shot, or if someone get’s caught in the blast of a heavy weapon or grenade that I shot/threw

I’m pretty sure in every HALO game that involved a sniper rifle and friendly fire did not end out so very well in team standards.

I’ve seen worse. I was capturing the last flag for a CTF game, and right before I scored, the teammate behind me boltshotted me and took the flag, scored, and proceeded to T-bag my dead body. That guy went on to taunt me, and make fun of my country (Canada).

People shouldn’t be trusted to play nice and not betray.

Today I stood in front of our one random teammate who was trying to snipe and repeatedly asked what he was doing. There was only one player left on the other team and the game was almost over. He shot me once and I did not move. I told him that it hurt and continued to ask what he was doing. He pulled out his AR and finished me off.

He got das boot.

I know right. So much Bs.

…It’s seems like there’s always an issue with the betrayel system. I’ve had issues almost exactly like your example happen in Halo 3 and Halo Reach. I say almost because they never happened in CTF.

It’s really hard to perfect the betrayal system. The easiest way to fix it is to take out team-killing (and EMPing), but then players wouldn’t have to be careful in trying not to hurt their own teammates. It is also something that has been in Halo for almost all-time.

I remember I suggested on Waypoint once to disable friendly-fire, but I was quickly knocked down by the community. I know there are problems that disabling friendly-fire could introduce, but wouldn’t it be better than getting damaged, EMP’d, and trolled online by random teammates and then getting booted from your games? Not to mention, for players who care about their kill-death ratio, getting betrayed will count as a death.

yeah, it’s a really touchy subject… I get what you’re saying. There’s a lot of good arguments both for and against friendly fire

Worse is the smart n00bs who know that if they betray, they’ll get booted, so instead they just strip your shields for an enemy to get the final shot. It is impossible to do anything against this.

I once played a shooter that gave a team the ability to vote to kick out a player. I would very much enjoy this feature in Halo. Unfortunately, it would probably be abused by people voting to kick players due to low skill.

Perhaps then the option to betrayal boot could occur after a player has done a certain amount of damage to teammates over a period of time?

Probably not damage, as there have been many accidents with grenades and power weapons.

I’d rather like to see how much time you spend harming your teammates. For example, spraying a teammate with an AR for 4 seconds would be much worse than killing a teammate once with a Rocket Launcher. However, the system should not lean on certain amount of time harming teammates alone as it can easily be abused.

The smart n00bs are huge jerks, the way to combat this is to pretend you still have your shields when they are down so that you may get the option to betray. I usually submit bad player reviews or strip their shields when they do the same to me. Thankfully, we are getting the Xbox Rep system which will likely pair disrespectful players with disrespectful players. I just hope it works right.

Or the people that stand in your face when you have a sniper… making it impossible to see, and giving away your positions just because you beat them to it… I haven’t ran into it in Halo 4, but it happened all the time in Halo Reach on Blood Gulch.

I like your idea of the boot coming from friendly damage. They’d need to set it high enough that accidental fire will almost never result in a boot. I say almost because there will always be a few times no-matter what.

Betrayal system will always be sore point, to few betrayals, accidental or otherwise and it’s the worst injustice since Crocs, to many and little Jimmy runs rampant game after game jacked up on Mountain Dew, such is life.

Betrayed! By the Gods, do I hate hearing that…

The betrayal boot system has been the subject to heated debates for many years. I find it likely to continue until the dawn of time. My main gripe is that griefers who slaughter their team sometimes proceed unbooted throughout the better part of a match before I either leave in angst or another player finally invokes the ability to kick them out of the match.

I was betrayed five times in a row before the option to kick one of those foul vermin, and that was four times too many.

I kinda miss old Reach Infection. Had to stay on your toes!!
