I think the only time the Boot Option appears is if that player betrayed you 2 or 3 times. However, it does kind of stink b/c i’ve players do that whenever i get my hands on the Sniper. The last one took 4 betrayals until the option finally came up. I think 343 should make the boot option appear once the player betrays you a second or third time.
I think I have gotten the option to betrayal boot more in Dominion than any other game mode combined. I think it has maybe been once a week at the very most in any other game mode, yet in dominion, I have had a few games where by 3 different players, I got the option in the same game.
The only mode where I have wanted to boot someone is in Griffball and that is because there are some players who cannot control their anger after hearing “betrayal” because they walked into a hammer battle. How about giving the option if they betray you three times in a row without appropriate enemy action involved.
343I - how about if a player does not even touch a functional button on his controller for over 90 seconds, you boot the guy for AFK’ing and give the 10 minute ban. This pisses a lot more people off than the accidental betrayal. Functional buttons only include shoot, move and throw grenades.
@Riot Rojas, I played a game just yesterday where I got the option to boot on the first betrayal. I was standing in front of my teammate who was trying to snipe. The game was almost over and the other team had 1 player so I was goofing around. I kept getting in his face asking what he was doing. He bodied me once and I didn’t move so he pulled out his AR and finished me off.
The betrayal-booting system has always been flawed. I can’t tell you how many times I got betrayed on purpose multiple times, and I didn’t get the option to boot them. But then I accidentally betray a teammate, and I’m booted immediately.
This is why friendly-fire just needs to be disabled for all game-types. It does more harm than good.

Well, if friendly fire was disabled, we would have the trolls running rampant. The option is very inconsistent, but having a slim window of the boot is better than raging because someone refuses to stop stepping on you. Still, the option could come up more. Especially in grifball, where people just love to betray with and for the ball.
in reach, there was a big bug where if you betrayed enough times and get booted enough times, it stopped giving the other players the option to boot you.
Intentional betraying will always be a problem. I know of few multiplayer games that do not have the problem. There are too many people who think that they must be number one, and they are more than willing to see any other player (OpFor or Team Member) who they see as in their way, as an enemy.
Sadly, most of the FPS multiplayer games stress individual achievement over teamwork.
What if the betrayals were being tallied, like ‘kills’ and ‘deaths’. That way if you saw a player with a high betrayal count, you know that the player likes to backstab. You could then add him/her to the list of players to avoid.

I suggested disabling friendly fire on Waypoint a very long time ago before Halo 4 was even released.
I was quickly torn down by other community members. Although disabling friendly fire would resolve a lot of problems, it would introduce replacements such as trolling, grenade spamming, people not having to worry or care about hurting their teammates, and taking out a significant feature that has been with Halo ever since the beginning.
trolling has and will always be an issue on video games in general. whether or not you can boot someone for it is irrelevent. If you don’t believe me, look of tearofgrace on youtube. this person had no problem betraying and getting booted repeatedly in the name of trolling/griefing.
having friendly fire makes it an actual challenge to get kills in the heat of combat. no more can you just shoot a rocket at it and have friendlies inexplicably live through a fireball. in games without damage taken from FF, i usually stick someone with the sticky detonator, just to steal kills. if i could i would stick myself, just so i can suicide bo–er… sticky bomb people to oblivion while they shoot at me in a cramped area.
anyways, bottom line, i think friendly fire needs to be factored when fighting, and should not be treated as “special”
yeah the betrayal booting is crap. ive literally never had the option to boot someone after being betrayed. this includes a game where all 3 teammates betrayed me over and over since i was a random.

Agreed, got betrayed 3 times the other night, no option to boot.

That sort of condones the actions of the griefers and puts the blame back on to me.
I shouldn’t have to wait until I have a party of friends before going into Matchmaking. 343i could implement changes to solve this problem without the need for party teams.

exactly.
plus all of my friends who play halo only play the good halos so…yeah. cant really party up with anyone but another random. =[
Wow! Straight after posting that I find a game of Big Team Slayer on Ragnarok.
Over half the team quit in the first couple of minutes due to griefers destroying/damaging people’s vehicles or shooting the guy with the sniper just because they reached them first.

Friendly fire was only ever off in certain playlists right? (e.g. SWAT) I’m not sure, just asking.
Whilst the booting system should be improved, I’m very pro friendly-fire especially in BTS where grenades and power weapons are rampant. You shouldn’t be able to fire your IC at a group of 3 friendlies and 3 enemies and watch as like magic your friendlies survive whilst the enemy is obliterated around them.

i do like friendly fire but man is just seems like in halo 4 there are way more trolls than ever before. ive never had so much betraying going on in any other halo.
