Beta Mistakes

  1. SmartScope. Eliminate the hipfire penalty . . . which, by the way, you already promised us did not exist. No hipfire penalty is one of the most important distinguishing characteristics between Halo and the majority of other shooters out there. This implementation of SmartScope is overall a bad idea.

  2. SmartScope. Once the hipfire penalty is gone and there is no longer any difference between H5 zoom and previous zooms, give players the option to choose whether they want the ADS-style animation or the classic-style zoom. Alternatively, make the weapon semitransparent when using SmartScope to prevent obscuring so much of the FoV.

  3. Ground pound. Not really that useful in practice, but whatever. If it remains, map it to a different button. Some of us still want to crouch jump to avoid the combat penalty associated with clamber. In fact, allow clamber to be used at the end of a crouch jump to give even more effective jump height.

  4. Announcements. PLEEZ STAHP. Re-record Jeff so that he doesn’t sound like he’s having an aneurysm with each statement. Eliminate the trash announcements (reversal, perfect, etc. . . . they add nothing but aural clutter). Reduce or eliminate power weapon announcements. If retained, have a single announcement 5-10s out. 30s is too much.

  5. Spartan chatter. PLEEZ PLEEZ PLEEZ STAHP. More aural clutter that adds no useful information, and takes away from the immersion factor of playing as yourself. Instead, everyone is playing as a middle-America white guy. I happen to be a middle-America white guy . . . but I still don’t sound like those Spartans.

  6. Audible notifications. Reduce. No need for audible hit markers. No need for a sound when you reach ramming speed. Change the shield sound to something more classic. So many of the audible notifications sound so similar that it is difficult to distinguish the important ones from the clutter.

  7. Slight nerf to thruster. Make it require a 1 - 2s longer recharge time.
