I believe its to demo the updates relating to the Classic playlist.
Similar to the Bungie Day or BTB All Stars playlists, it will be a unique playlist after the TU.

The TU enables stuff that happens in the beta hoppers; without the tu the beta wouldnt work. but 343 can tweak the update after you first download it.
