I played only Halo CE on PC, until December when I got MCC and played 2, 3, 4 and Reach for the first time.
As I have no nostalgia for 2 and 3, actually liked Halo 4’s multiplayer and plays exclusively on M&K I’d consider myself an outsider in this community lol
Take it for what it is! : )
Installs Keyboard without Permission
・Halo Infinite installs EN-US keyboard upon start-up.
Please don’t touch my system settings without permission.
Please. Please. Please.
XBOX Live Login doesn’t support other Keyboards
・Scandinavian keyboards where the right Alt is called Alt Gr and is used to create extra symbols including @.
The login window doesn’t accept Alt Gr, nor does it accept the stand in Ctrl+Alt making it impossible to write your e-mail address.
Music Settings
・Both Music and Menu Music affect the Menu Music volume.
・Also upon start-up and about 10 seconds later again the game reverts to 100 on both, fixed by alt-tabbing in and out of the game.
Terrible Performance
・I know my laptop isn’t the strongest machine out there, but Halo 4 and Titanfall 2 runs fine on high settings,
while Infinite on low settings looks worse than Halo 4 but still only get 20-28fps.
Keybindings
・There is no way to directly remove a keybinding.
・The default for switching weapons, “Mouse Wheel Scroll Up or Down”, isn’t flagged as a conflict while binding Mouse Wheel Up or Down.
・Furthermore, there is no way to bind something else to “Scroll Up or Down” as scrolling up or down will get you either, but not both.
・I miss the Zoom In and Zoom Out keybinding from Halo 4.
Main Menus
・Overall they feel very much designed for use with controller and not mouse and keyboard: clickable things are relegated to the corners of the screen instead of the center; you having to move the mouse back and forth big parts of the screen when progressing through menus, etc.
・Why are Enter and Backspace the suggested shortcuts, when your hand is resting on the left side of the keyboard (where all other keyboard shortcuts are)?
・When opening the Settings Menu (F1), the true Settings Menu is already highlighted (makes sense for a controller) but this makes it seem like a title for the screen and not an alternative. When using mouse and keyboard nothing should be highlighted on opening.
・For Customisation, left-click opens details and right click highlights and previews it.
Just like Windows, the right click should be details; the left click should highlight&preview and clicking a highlighted object should equip it without going to the details screen.
・Filters for customisation should be global (i.e. if I select to only show items I own in the Armor Hall, that should still be the case when I open weapon customisation screen).
・Scrolling through Weapons or Vehicles or Camouflages one by one is tedious, they should be presented in a grid.
・The sound for next/previous item in the Weapons and Vehicles menus hurts my ears, it’s way too high-pitched.
・The dates for unlocks are in the American system which only makes sense for 4.2% of the world population.
・You can search for games while looking at your last match’s scoreboard. However, if you start looking for a game and during the unnecessary 3 second countdown, switch to last game’s scoreboard, your search is cancelled.
・You need to return to the main menu to access customisation during matchmaking.
In Game UI Elements
・I miss the “picked up 147 rounds for Assault Rifle” from CE… can we at least get any info about what we picked up?
・Grenades/Items are very small and located all the way down to the right. I’d really like to be able to customise size and position of these.
・You run “Tips” on the loading screens, but not maybe the most crucial ones: Ghosts slow but sure destruction of other vehicles, that the score menu isn’t hold but toggle now and that you cannot fire while looking at it, what red and blue actually means for weapon terminals, that a zoomed in skewer/sniper emits a light, how the scan works, how to drop a flag… You know, the stuff that has changed from previous titles!
・Make colour choice for outlines be free RGB instead of presets, I’d like to try out white for allies!
・The weapon terminals highlighted by the scan stays lit way too little.
・Markers of other players disappears way too quickly.
Battlepass
・Feels terrible that as an F2P player you only get a new item every third level, and those are not always cosmetics but useless items such as challenge swaps.
・You start with a green visor, and the first visor you unlock as F2P is… a green visor…
I, for one, welcome our AR overlord
・Feels great that the non-precision weapon we spawn with is the stronger one.
・Both starting weapons having shorter ranges than previous titles also promotes more close quarter combat, which I personally like.
The Motion Tracker Downgrade
・This is the thing I disliked he most, I’ll even say I hate it!
The shorter range and the lack of height indicators is terrible. Halo 4 was really good in this regard!
(Feels just wrong you can stand in the same room as someone, and they don’t show up on the tracker!)
Glorious Needler
・After all these games the Needler is finally good?
I love it, but the sound really needs to be more glass-like!
Wait, why implement the worst thing of Halo 4 multiplayer?
・Why are weapon despawn rates a couple of seconds again?!
Points?
・A kill is 100 points and an assist is 50, but at the end game scoreboard this doesn’t line up at all!
For KDA an assist is a third of kill instead of half, whichever is fine, but make up your mind!
・People should be ranked first and foremost by their total score (Objectives+Kills+etc.) instead of the seemingly random ordering right now.
Again, Halo 4 was excellent in this regard!
Vehicles?
・Unlike previous titles, acceleration is super quick, suspension super strong and they are really heavy.
Didn’t really feel like Halo driving to me, but I didn’t have the chance to drive so much, so maybe it’s just me.
With that said, I really enjoyed the gameplay with the movement and gunplay!
Probably my favourite!
Cheers!
