Best TV option for Halo 5?

Looking to get a new TV for the game room and am wondering what the best tv suggestions people have for optimal output of Halo 5? Size, speed, input lag a huge concern?

Basically you want something that has at least 120 hz and something that is a comfortable size. Anything ranging from 22" to 46" is a perfect size I feel. If the tv also has some sort of game mode setting on there, it’s always a plus but not a huge priority.

I play on a 22" monitor that I also use as my comp screen. Keeps things simple.

You’d want to get a TV with at least 1080p video resolution with 120hz refresh rate, has energy star ratings on it to show it lasts long for quality and performance assurance, and if you’re planning on sitting maybe 10-13 feet (around 4 meters) away from the TV, screen size should be 40".

If you can get your hands on a 4K/OLED TV with 240hz that’s 40" measured then you’ll be in even better hands for quality and performance just because the refresh rate is so much better with vibrant colors and the deepest blacks possible.

Game Mode is a must for me. My LG runs at 120 hz in that mode and everything runs so smooth. If I leave game mode the tv will go up to 240 hz and my aim and timing is way off. I truly can’t describe it other than it looks so smooth that it’s… Slow??? Looks great for movies and sports. To each their own in the end.

120 hz gaming monitor
22-24 inch

If you play competitively then this is a must. Large TVs are horrid when trying to be good at a game. Just too much space to try to watch.

Always get a monitor due to quick response times plus easier to concentrate on.

remember back in h2 days it was mind numbing looking at some 40" plasma.

I’ve heard for competition and lowest display lag, the smaller the monitor the better. I’ve been playing the past 5 months of Halo4 on a 65" Samsung Curve and it’s been pretty amazing…but, I feel like I’m lacking just a millisecond or so on other competition that beat me out(swat, sniping speed, turning/firing in air), and I know they are using a smaller screen. So thanks for the input, I’ll most likely try out a smaller screen for gaming and leave the sports and movies to the big screens.

You don’t want a tv. You want a monitor. At least 60 hz. Check out BenQ. They are pretty much the gold standard.

It’s all about the input lag. All modern TVs this day and age are fine on refresh rate.

I’ve had a Sony Bravia for the last 6 years, mainly because of the input lag (roughly 20ms in game mode). I’ve just this week upgraded to a new model, same killer input lag, http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/kdl50w829b-201403023650.htm.

When I first hooked the new TV up I forgot to set game mode, it was a bit weird. After setting Game Mode it’s killer.

I’ve been playing on an Ingsignia 40 inch 60hz 1080P LED LCD TV, (that I only paid $350 for), for 3 yrs now. I’ve never had no problems. Everything works and looks just fine. The games refresh rate is 60 fps, and the 60hz is the refresh rate per second on the tv so they are both compatible.

It’s really gonna come down to if you wanna spend a lot of extra money on stuff you don’t necessarily need, and won’t utilize, vs spending less and getting the same quality of experience.

Alright people in here don’t know what they’re talking about.
Hz doesn’t affect your frame rate or fluidity. Trust me. Go for 60hz if you’re just going to do XBone gaming on it.
The TV uses tricks to upscale from 60fps to 120fps, but it doesn’t work in game. Just in movies and TV to create an illusion by adding redundant frames or black frames. In reality upscaling is a horrid way to say it. It’s just adding fake frames that don’t actually show more fluid animations.
4k upscaling is “nicer” (it’s just filling in extra pixels with color that weren’t there originally) and does create a more crisp image that is for sure. But is it worth the cost to you? The difference isn’t wildly noticable. It’s far from night and day but it will help with eye strain on some of the low res textures and jaggy edges on geometry in H5!
TV’s have a higher Millisecond delay than Monitors. Monitors are also (as well as TV’s) not really as advertised in MS delay speeds. So a 5ms might actually be more like 10-15ms delay… honestly this in all total equals a 1 frame per second delay. You will never notice it. Impossible. Which is also why 60fps SHOULD be standard for gaming because a dip from 60fps to 50fps isn’t all that noticable even for long periods of time. Where as if you dip down into 20fps from 30fps… well you’re below the sub-par trash that is 24fps. (the minimum needed to create the illusion of movement “properly”) Anyways long story short a delay speed hardly factors into things anyways. But if you’re huge into being a try hard like us then you’ll want low MS delay for your TV/Monitor for that extra edge.
4k or 1080p. First off let’s talk about pixel density. PPI = Pixel per inch…
A 20" 1080p monitor (this is generalizing because the math behind it factors in a lot of things like width, height, diagonal length, etc…) is twice the PPI of a 40" 1080p monitor.
BUT do note that it doesn’t mean there’s a higher resolution going on there. Same reso, differen’t PPI. NOW don’t listen to the fools talking about no diff of 720p, 4k, 1080p at a certain distance. (untrue) If you get a bigger TV or Monitor you are allowed to sit back further and retain the same crisp image. So you’d want to sit twice as far back then you would from the 20" for the 40". So if you are getting a monitor or TV it should be factored into WHAT YOUR SET UP IS!
If you game on a couch across the living room from TV get a bigger TV. Due to the way it works at the right length of distance it will be the same clarity as a smaller TV from up close. Don’t get a big TV for up close viewership. Pointless.
But a 4k TV of the same inches" will have 4x density of pixels. Along those lines. So therefor if you have 4k content it will pretty much look good regardless of where you view it. Upscaled content though… you’re gonna have to figure out the right distance to sit because the upscaling creates a weird effect up close. So if it’s a small monitor upscaled no biggie sit close. If it’s a big upscaled TV I recommend staying away because it could look EVEN WORSE.
So basically factor these:

  • What distance will you sit from TV, is upscaled 4k worth the extra cost? Don’t expect a graphics changer… it’s REALLY not that much of a difference. Trust me. - Does price of monitor not deter you from faster MS delay? I’d say TV’s probs have 30-50ms delay in all actuality about (2-3 fps delay) not noticable, but will be if you switch from a low latency monitor to the TV. Go for TV if the extra 1-2 frame delay difference is worth the savings. Personally for xbox gaming… yeah I’d rather save my cash LOL. Now PC gaming on the other hand… <3 - Do you want to spend more for 120hz just for the illusion while watching TV or a movie? (btw 120hz is basically a post processing effect so it can create ghosting FYI which is bad) If so get it. If not, it doesn’t work for gaming. Trust me we’re talking placebo effect. LOL. Oh and some people don’t like the effect you should do research. - BACKLIGHTING! OMLED! Various things to think about here.
