Hello Spartans,
In light of the new Halo Infinite flight news, and Infinite being in the horizon for all of us to play it got me thinking. What is the best story arc in all of the Halo Franchise’s?
Personally, Halo Reach and Halo 3: ODST are close when it comes to just the story. NO disrespect to the great of greats in Combat Evolve, Halo 2 and Halo 3. I believe I lean Reach and ODST simply because I love build up of unknown and fatality. We knew Reach fell when we first played the game, but while playing it, you still believed your actions could MAYBE change the outcome of the inevitable. Reach always had a hopeless vibe to it that still had you believing you are doing acts of heroism that will save the planet of reach. Noble team are absolute STUDS and loved how every objected they had in front of them, they would execute to perfection even if it took there lives. Remember Reach…
Similarly, to ODST has kind of the same arc. Though it’s not as hopeless seeing we know we win the battle against the Covenant in Halo 3. That being said, the soundtrack, getting to know each character and the chemistry of the team. Finding all the pieces and squad members around Mombasa streets gives off a vibe that non of the other Halo’s provided. I’ve seen the comparison before, but the Noir style vibes ODST gives off makes it age like fine wine.
Am I missing something? Better arcs in Halo out there? Whether comics or video games? Let’s chop it up.
This is it, baby. Hold me
Sorry - slightly boomer question but what does story ‘arc’ mean? Is it like plot?
I like Halo: Reach and ODST too. It’s hard to say that any one of the first 3 games has a good plot line because they are sequential and play into each subsequent game.

Basically a story arc is something told or shown in an episodic format either continuing or extending the overall storyline. Take Spartan Ops for instance. That story is a continuation of Halo 4’s Campaign and unfolds over several episodes thus creating an “arc”.

So its kind of like the architecture of the story?

Kind of. Let’s use anime/manga as a better example. Long-running shows/books such as Naruto are rife with story arcs. Every so often something will happen, normally an organisation will come along that our heroes have to defeat, but something that big cannot be told in just one episode so it extends into the next one and the one after that with each episode normally ending in a cliff hanger until the organisation has been defeated and the situation resolved.

I think I got it. Its kind of like the story behind the story. I watch Lucifer and it has it’s weekly story but it also has the story that has been going on since the series started.

Couldn’t said it better myself. Most if not all Halo is a continuation and gives more depth to the arc at hand. The question in other words is what is your favorite point of the story? Which game or comic might give more context to said story that clicks with you?
