Best Monitor for Halo Infinite on XSX?

I’ve just treated myself for Christmas and bought an Xbox Series X which should be delivered some time next week. I’m currently using an Xbox One X with a decent 1080p so doubt I’m even getting 60fps. What FPS would the XSX get on a 1080p monitor?

I don’t like playing FPS on large screens so I’m considering purchasing a monitor with HDMI 2.1 so I can run 4K at 120fps.

What monitors are you playing on and do you have any recommendations as I’m struggling to find any HMDI 2.1 monitors at the moment?

1080p? 120fps I believe is the limit.

While you could run stuff at 4K at 120fps, I don’t think that’s possible on the Series X. Isn’t it currently locked at 60fps at 4K?

Can’t help you there, running a 24” Asus 1080p 144hz with my PC at 120fps for frame conversion reasons.

There are HDMI 2.1 to DisplayPort (or DVI if you’re using headphones rather than built in speakers) cables that accomplish the same task though if that helps. Most of not all high refresh rate monitors have DP and DVI support, and these are cross compatible with HDMI adapters.

The Xbox Series X supports 4k 120 Hz. How often that is possible is another conversation.

I had no idea, thank you for the correction.

HDMI 2.1 cables work in 2.0 ports - or should do for the most part, it’s supposed to be backwards compatible.

I am in a similar situation, having recently ordered an XBSX. Over the past several years I have used BenQ gaming monitors. I will probably upgrade in the near future because my monitor is about 3 years old.

I suggest visiting the BenQ website. Their Gaming Monitors page has a BenQ Console Compatibility chart that shows the XBSX and suitable monitors. Scroll down towards the bottom of the page to view the chart.

depends on how much you want to spend and how much space you have.

my favourite atm would be an lg cx or c1 oled in regards to picture quality, price and features. i’m using the 48" model mounted to the wall behind my desk.

they also want to launch a 42" model next year iirc.

Nah brother scrap the monitor and go the LG OLED Gallery G1 77" 4K 120hrz … beast mode man.

Hell yea, great TV, I went the G1 77" it is insane!

I went with the LG UltraGear 27GP850 for 120 fps at 1440. Works great, excellent monitor

If not playing on a large screen, you won’t notice much difference between 4k and 1440p. Finding a 4k screen with HDMI 2.1 is pretty tough and you will pay a lot more.

($1000+ for 4k 120hz vs $300-$500 for 1440p 120 hz)

Personally I don’t think the price is worth it.

The Gigabyte M28U is the best choice for 4k 144z HDMI 2.1. Its hard to find bc of Christmas right now, but it’s the least expensive HDMI 2.1 monitor, but also more or less the best. It runs for $650 USD, while the competition is at $750-$900 USD. Infinite MP supports 4k 120fps to my knowledge, so the feature set is useful there. However, the campaign tops off at around 1440p in performance mode to get access to frame rates above 60. The MSI MAG27QRFD-QD is also a very solid 1440p choice. But if you really want HDMI 2.1 for Freesync and such, the M28U is your best purchase imo

The M28U is $650 USD and is in stock relatively often. Def not $1000+

It’s pretty solid in MP for 4K 120 in performance mode. Campaign tops out around 1440p mostly 120fps in performance mode in most situations, but can dip in the 80’s web combat gets too spicy😬 Still very solid for an open world game with no ai upscaling method like DLSS or the algorithm equivalent like FSR

This one is on my shortlist and was going to buy…but then I found lots of chat online that it can’t do 1440p 120fps with freesync and VRR enabled. Could you confirm if this now works and you are able to get 1440p 120fps with all of the monitor features enabled please?

I agree entirely. I’ll be buying a new 50” 4K tv for watching tv and films, but there’s no way I’d consider playing FPS games on it…that’s why I want a monitor and all my research so far supports everything you’ve just said. The main clincher is that Hall Infinite doesn’t support 4K 120fps so buying a HDMI 2.1 monitor or tv for Halo is actually pointless.

You’ve kind of mentioned it yourself…all of these HDMI 2.1 are capable of 4K 120fps but Halo Infinite on XSX doesn’t support it apparently. From my research, to get 120fps you have to use performance mode and that drops it down to 60fps, so for Halo you basically have 2 options…4K 60fps or 1440p 120fps (however there is a caveat to that in that the XSX doesn’t allow 1440p with freesync and VRR on some monitors).

Exuberant Witness has by far been the best monitor.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, I’m not on here a whole lot. I can confirm 1440p 120fps right now, but have not tried it with freesync AND VRR on. Will test and report back.

No worries. I ended up buying the 27GP850 too and very happy with it.
