Best Halo book in the series?

Hey, I was wondering which book in the Halo series is considered to be the best and why. I’ve heard that The Fall of Reach is excellent. The only book I have right now is Ghosts of Onyx, which I’m reading right now, and I really like it so far.

I’m also probably gonna get Glasslands soon, since it’s supposed to be the sequel to Ghosts of Onyx. Is Glasslands any good?

I like The Fall of Reach and First Strike about equally. Ghosts of Onyx started to take the story on a new twist and that’s what Glasslands continues.

I’m not sure I like what Glasslands did with Dr. Halsey.

Well you own the best one. Lol

I’m actually not sure which books are better, Bear’s or Nylund’s.

Contact Harvest is really good too.

Cryptum, Ghosts of Onyx and Contact Harvest are my personal favourites.

My favourites are the following:

Fall of Reach: So much story and origins! I love it and kudos to Eric Nylund’s writing

Cryptum: A new book which was full of mystery-a Halo novel were the imagination was more involved

The Cole Protocol: Pretty long and interesting book. I couldn’t stop reading near the end.

  1. Fall of Reach (Re-print)

  2. Ghosts of Onyx

  3. Contact Harvest

  4. Glasslands

  5. Cryptum

  6. The Cole Protocol

Not any that Eric Nylund wrote, he is an awful author.

BLASHPEMY!

Nah jk

Fall of Reach.

I found the Chief’s story and past so interesting. I loved reading about their training and the missions they went on. That book really stuck out to me.

1st: Ghosts of Onyx & Cole Protocol

2nd: Glasslands

3rd: Everything Else

Last: Primordium & Cryptum

  1. Fall of Reach
  2. Cryptum
  3. Ghosts of Oynx
  4. First Strike
  5. Contact Harvest

HERESY! hes a great author.

my personal favorites are Contact Harvest, Ghosts of Onyx, and Glasslands. I enjoyed reading them all tho, cant wait for the new one this October

First Strike and Ghosts of Onyx stood out, but all of them are great. Oh, and can’t forget the Cole Protocol, it’s not really a huge impact on the main story, but it’s awesome.

It hasn’t yet. Apparently there are plans for Gray Team, which I find strange, because they couldn’t have done anything majorly damaging to the Covenant, or it would have been noted at some point. My guess is they got tangled up in some Forerunner/Flood affairs, and will do something relevant in Halo 5/6.

In my opinion, the best is Halo: Cryptum, closely followed by Contact Harvest.

How similar is The Fall of Reach to Halo Reach? Will I basically be reading the same thing as the Reach campaign? Or are there differences between the book and the game?

The differences are pretty night and day. The only real overlap between the two is that they take place on the same planet and have some of the same characters in both.

No, I would totally recommend the fall of Reach. Some people say the two contradict, which they do in some ways, but have been fixed by data drops. Some “problems” still exist, but you can look past them and link the two stories together.

While this is a matter of opinion, I would put this as my top three books (in this order);

  1. Ghosts of Onyx - This book was just awesome. I like how they didn’t try to make the SIIIs another batch of heroes, they made them practical. I haven’t read it in awhile though, so I don’t remember all the rest of the awesomeness xD

  2. Contact Harvest- Sergeant Johnson. Really all that needs to be said… Though I’ll say more! I really loved seeing what actually happened on Harvest, now just the typical “They found it, glassed it, raped us.”

  3. The Cole Protocol- Another great book, it gave a good view of both sides I think, showing both the humans doing their thing, as well as the Covenant trying to manipulate the humans.

Glasslands is my favorite Halo book so far
