Best Game After Almost a Year of not Playing it

Have you ever stopped playing a certain Halo Game’s Multiplayer, come back to it in about 6-12 months and either find out you are still good at it or suck badly. I had this experience in Halo 4. Last time I played its Multiplayer was about February 2017, played Slayer on it in March of 2018 and instantly went 18-1. Have you ever had those games?

Yes, halo 5. Stop playing for awhile, usually a averaging around a high silver to low gold, and currently hover around platinum 6 - low diamond.

sadly I’m a muscle-memory player, so I don’t drift between games if the controls are different. Getting old folks, my reactions aren’t what they were. For the same reason, if I haven’t played in a while, I’m junk.

Yeah I do this with Halo 5 all the time.
Dont play it for a while, jump back on it and absolutely love it and vow not to drift away from it again.
Then rinse and repeat lol.

After taking two weeks off from Halo (and Xbox by extension), I dropped an Invincible in Warzone.

I’ve had a few game in the MCC that I did really well even though I hadn’t played in a while. I didn’t play halo 2 multiplayer for years, then proceeded to get a 36 kill streak in H2 BTB. It’s all downhill from there though lol

This. A thousand times this. Gaming hates us old folks.

I put up a post a whiles back saying I’ve been playing since Halo CE 2001 and asking if anyone else felt like the game mechanics had got too quick. Some guy enlightened me to the fact that actually I’d just got too slow, that my reactions had aged. Truth clipped my heart man.

I’ve had that same conversation so many times…

And yet, just because some kid says the game isn’t too fast doesn’t mean it isn’t. If Halo 5 gameplay was genuinely the be-all-end-all, as so many people seem to believe, then where the heck is the population? I’m pretty sure Halo 4 had as many players at this point in its lifespan. So it stands to reason that the people who find the pacing right are the only people who are left playing - and that’s by no means a majority of players, or even a healthy minority. It’s a handful of Adderall addicted teenagers.

All that said, I really wouldn’t want to go back to classic Halo. That was too slow then and MCC proved to me that it’s still too slow now. The Golden Mean was somewhere between Reach and Halo 4. Not that I was any better at those games than I am at this one - but they just seemed to feel right to me.

I read somewhere on these forums a year ago or more where somebody described Halo 5 gameplay as “trying to swat flies.” I laughed out loud. He was so right.

Best of luck, old man. Best of luck.

Well you’ve made an old man feel better about that age, because you’re right - I feel like in Halo 2 my Spartan was too flimsy, but somewhere in between Halo 3 and Halo 4 was one hell of a gaming experience, and I actually felt able to dispense justice righteously, whereas now I feel like I’m often just trying not to waste a top end weapon by getting piped 4 seconds after respawn by some unseen gnat on the fly-by.
Godspeed, old boy, do not go gentle into that good night.

That’s more likely due to the player count dropping so much.
I’ve been an onyx since the start, and I could barley touch Champions back when H5 came out.
Now? Drop champs like flies.

Rank doesn’t mean much now.

I don’t play Halo multiplayer all that often but whenever I do I can easily get top spot on my team for no reason. I wonder if everyone else just sucks honestly. Halo multiplayer is generally easy, especially in 3.

I can stop playing H5 for only a couple days and my aim will feel terrible for several games. It’s the only game where I had that issue. It’s going to be really bad when I do come back since I’ve already been gone for over a month.

Lol… Ditto. When they changed the matchmaking I get put in almost every game with Champ - Platinums. I get slaughtered… hahaha. I can’t switch games either because of the reflexes and muscle memory. Getting too old I guess.

Halo 3! Gahh I used to be right at that game… tried it today and I’m pretty sure a 2 year old could beat me!

I’ve always been pretty good at Halo. Regardless of how much time goes by, I’ll jump in and it’ll be like I never even left. It’s rare for me to have a crap game after not playing for so long.

I love Halo. It’s in my bones. I’ll be 100 years old, hosting a LAN party at my retirement home, and I’m sure all of us will still be able to play fairly decent.

Halo Reach On and Off.

Be nice to hear some actual ages which all of you avoided… hahaha. You guys are wet behind the ears… lol. We need to get our own company with an extreme age limit.

Halo 3. took probably a 2-3 year break and when I went back it was comical how bad I was. My fingers felt like they never pushed a button before. I was all stiff and out of practice. Good times

Let’s just say I first rolled with the Chief when I was in college
