Best difficulty to play on?

What is the most atmospheric, realistic and just generally best difficulty to play on?

Its always been Heroic. Legendary is too much at some points and obviously the rest are not challenging enough.

I usually play heroic first than legendary. Heroic is the best for realistic and a little challenge.

I play normal first in the campaign, then I dive into legendary. But in firefight, I believe it has always been placed on heroic difficulty, yet you can change that in your own match.
