Best Controller Layout

What’s up everyone. Just got a new controller (Wolverine Ultimate) and started messing around with different layouts. I have always run bumper jumper but wanted to see what everyone else runs with. First time with the added bumpers so any suggestions on what I should change them to would help out.

Title says best layout but I know it comes down to personal preference. Been trying out different layouts to see what flows best for me so I am willing to try anything y’all throw out.

Currently playing a lot of Halo 5

I’ve always loved Bumper Jumper, but I do suspect that Helljumper may be better given the increase to Red Reticule Range when aiming a gun with Smart Scope.

Which I found is easier to do more frequently with the Left Trigger, but I could never get used to it and stuck with Bumper Jumper.

I use Bumper Jumper with a Elite Series 2 controller and I’ve never had a issue. I just mapped A,B,X & Y to the paddles so I can keep my thumbs on the sticks at all times.
This essentially enables me to jump, aim , switch weapons, thrust & reload all without moving my thumbs anywhere. Is such a nice advantage once you get used to the extra buttons.

Yea I tried out recon for the first time last night and messed around with different mappings for the bumpers but kept falling off the map cause I was so used to burst being a different button lol. Might go back to bumper jumper and map a,b,x,y.

it is a huge advantage to have a custom controller, i have always played with the included on the box.

Don’t think the layouts matter that much as long as you program the paddles right so I would stick with basic recon or bumper jumper. For comfort I would suggest making a paddle a shift key and then giving your crouch button a secondary jump function. This will make spring jumping 100% easy by just crouching and then pressing shift to activate the jump.

I play bumper jumper with 1 paddle for thrusters because that’s all I can handle. Feels pretty good. I got a poor man’s elite though. Fusion pro. While they feel great out of the box…I feel they degrade a bit quick and the sticks feel loose. Oh well. Lol

I’m using the Elite Series 2, here’s my layout:

Left trigger- Smart-Link
Left Bumper- Grenades
Right Trigger- Fire
Right Bumper- Melee
A- nothing
X- Take Screenshot
Y- Take Clip
B- Nothing
Top left paddle- Reload
Bottom left paddle- Jump
Top right paddle- Switch weapons
-Bottom Right Paddle- Boost

lol yea I’m thinking about switching back to bumper jumper and increasing paddles as I get comfortable.

I’ve only ever used 1. I doubt it will be as critical to use in infinite since thrusters are not there. They’re extremely critical in 5 though since there’s literally soo much you use them for. You add a depth to your strafe, sick ninja kills, special super slide jumps or knee cap jumps, spring thrusts, pivotal momentum shifts, etc. They aren’t only used to basically thrusting back to cover. There’s an entire dynamic revolving around that 1 specific mechanic with the rest of the modernized mechanics, and it’s misuse during matches can become the difference of winning or losing your battles when you play the higher IQ players.

But pick a good layout that just feels comfortable. Repulsor will be in infinite and can be used both to access special jumps or deflect stuff like a charged plasma shot…and the grapple shot is self explanatory…but they’re map pickups and not innate traits. So for that I just see the advanced controllers as not being as super necessary…but…perhaps I should save that judgment until I’ve played infinite. This is just some speculation so far. I see a controller with a crap ton of extra buttons unnecessary…BUT…there’s gonna be some new features so…I suppose let’s wait and see.

I forgot about paddles! I wonder how binding zoom to a paddle would impact the regular Bumper Jumper control scheme when you get into a “Zoom off” battle.

I personally play with an Elite V2 controller and find it great.

Obviously you never slide  or crouch

Lmaoo nope I stand still, crouching is for noobz
Well, my left stick is for movement and my right stick is for crouching and looking

Thanks for the info… must try some of these.

Can’t go wrong with bumper jumper. Helljumper is an easier transition from COD if you are used to the left trigger doing ADS.
