Best Controller Layout to Reach Champion

I have been wondering what the best controller layout is for competitive game play. As I have looked around people say it is up to preference and what works best for you you. I play on the default layout and both my look sensitivity and look acceleration is set at 3. Is the a better controller layout to play on or do I just to grind and get better?

I like recon with 10 sensistivity but its all personal preference.

It’s probably more about the controller you’re using versus the control scheme. If you had a controller with paddles for example, you would most likely have an advantage over someone that didn’t since you wouldn’t have to take your thumbs off the sticks when performing tasks.

At the end of the day though, it’s about grinding by learning teamwork, setups, spawns and map control. Your skill will get you by to a certain point, but if you don’t learn those other things, then you probably won’t go as high as you’d like.

Halo 5 requires so many inputs, it doesn’t really matter what layout you use anymore: you’re still not going to have enough fingers :stuck_out_tongue:
BUT… if you choose to either play claw or get something with paddles, then suddenly any layout works fine. It’s not required but sure helps.

It has all your preference. It is less about the controller and input your using and more about what settings your comfortable with. If you look at all the pros, there are a variety of controller inputs that they use…Bumper Jumper, Default, Recon, Southpaw… everyone has their own preference. Choose what YOUR comfy with!

So are you saying, that the best thing to do is get a controller with paddles? Plus just getting better at the game in general.

Paddles would probably be better in the long run, but it’s not the end of the world if you don’t get them. I’m sure there are lots of champion level players that don’t use them. TBH, you should probably ask yourself if you’re even champion material. Using paddles can help, but if you don’t have the skill, then it’s not really gonna matter very much. There’s nothing wrong with not making champion and just trying to get to the highest rank you can achieve, but you also shouldn’t fool yourself.

The elite controller definitely helped me. i can now turn and shoot while jumping which i couldn’t do with a regular controller.

Is not about the control scheme is about skill

It just seems that youtuber’s put it out there that you must use a certain controller layout to get better and I don’t know if that is true or not.

Yes you could, that’s what Bumper Jumper is for…

So is bumper jumper the alternative for an elite controller?

Not entirely, just a layout where you can jump, shoot, nade and turn at the same time. There’s always learning how to claw, but I have my elite to make use of paddles to make ease of nade and weapon switching, also thruster and melee. The hair triggers are nice too. It’s all preference.

Pretty much yeah. If you don’t have paddles Helljumper or Bumper Jumper is a must, but you can do pretty much whatever feels best with a controller with paddles.

Then I would have to change my layout which wasn’t an option for me. Been playing the same button layout since 2006.

Yeah I have been using the same as well, guess it is time to switch.

I been playing with default since 2001. When I started playing H5 multi-player I switched to bumper jumper. I just went and played campaign a whole bunch until I got used to it. (took me forever…lol) I really like bumper jumper now and would never go back to default.
