So I am getting my wife to start playing shooters and I figured I started out on Halo, why not start her there. Unfortunately I forgot how bad some of the level design was on Halo CE. SO repetitive and poor layout. My wife just kept saying that it felt lazy in its design (I had to remind her it was originally in 2001 and was really good for its time). My question is which Halo campaign would be best to coop together with the least repetitive/confusing level designs (we were lost on two betrayals for like 20 minutes trying to figure out where the crap to go, is it so much to ask for a waypoint design that helps to lead you where you need to go at least on easy mode?). She also enjoyed the flood because there were “more to shoot, I don’t want to spend my time walking around doing nothing in a shooter game” as she said.
Edit: I should add that its been a few years since I have picked up a Halo game and the campaigns all just run together for me so that’s why I need the help remembering which campaign would be best to hit next.
Halo 3. It has the most variety in terms of options to approach a situation. It’s linear but not redundant. Also, it’s fairly easy … one of the easiest Halo campaigns (in my opinion). I started my fiance out with Reach, and she loved it … of course, that’s not in the MCC, but her favorite was Halo 3. It was the only Halo we played together where she wanted to keep going after each mission and it often had her laughing at the Covenant dialog and Grunt-antics.
She can’t stand playing Halo 2. We never got past the first Arbiter mission because of how repetitive and drawn-out the missions can be. She thought CE was okay but kept getting lost and shares similar sentiments with your wife about the game.
If your wife is anything like my fiance, she’ll also like jetpacks, beautiful visuals, and great story, so Halo 4 will probably be a win. Mine loved the story between Chief & Cortana and found Lasky to be an intriguing character as well.
So yeah, Halo 3 & Halo 4 I’d say would be great campaigns to play. Hopefully the ending of Halo 3 will intrigue her enough to want to dive into Halo 4.

My deal for playing Just Dance with her. If she gets to see me make a fool of myself I get to teach her about shooters.

So I’m getting that Halo 2 is a no go. What is it most similar to in Halo CE? like the really long, confusing missions that you get lost on? I’m thinking we may skip it until after 3-4 and go back to it if she wants at the end.

I completely agree, Halo 3 was definitely the easiest. Halo 2 Legendary was probably the hardest Legendary campaign, but I’m assuming you aren’t trying Legendary with a newcomer.

Oh heck no. She just figured out how to keep her head facing forward when she is strafing, how to throw a grenade without throwing at her feat, and how to melee. Easy may be better
Halo CE: Some repetitive levels (still my favorite game)
Halo 2: I just didn’t like the game physics… or the Arbiter levels (I like the character)
Halo 3: Maybe the most balanced
Halo 4: Color pallette seemed bland, where things just blended with each other. The levels get more confusing towards the end IMO

Yeah, the level design (not all of them; Delta Halo is a brilliantly designed mission) but it seems like it took a couple of Halo games for Bungie to learn how to create a campaign that wasn’t utterly repetitive. Then they forgot and made Destiny.
But Halo 3 & 4 will be great for story and gameplay. Plus, they’re not as difficult. In Halo CE, I found that my fiance was just desperately trying to plow through this maze to get it over with, but in Halo 4 she was stopping to look around and was really enjoying the story. She almost cried at the end when Cortana died because she had grown so attached to her throughout the game and was really expecting her to be saved at the last minute. She said it was the only game that made her care about Chief as a character (I just went and asked her “why did you like Halo 4 so much compared to the others?”, so I’m doing my research for you, lol).

That’s funny. I tried teaching my wife way back when on H:CE LAN. Didn’t go to well, she stuck to her side-scrollers.

Thanks, I think I’ll just skip Halo 2 and just give her a summary of what happened in it, then jump ahead so that she will enjoy it more. I think another few levels like those last 3 in CE would put her off of shooters entirely.

Thats what I thought would happen, but instead she loved fighting the flood because they were everywhere. First person I have ever heard say I hope there are more flood on this level…

My wife only really plays Peggle too, and sometimes Tetris.

My wife loves Injustice, but since we got the Xbox One she needed something to fill the void.
