I’m a pretty decent halo gamer, use to be rank 80 in the world for invasion, but all these videos on YT I see all the time, everyone uses bumper jumper, which I have never tried at all, I’ve always stuck with default settings (recon for halo reach, since it is similar to halo 3’s default)
But what I also use is the claw grip, which is a very useful technique when holding the controller. Now my question is, would it be wise to switch controller layouts or should I stick with default/recon as I’ve been using it for years?
I prefer recon, I’m a old school Halo gamer. ANd it really depends on your overall gamestyle. Perhaps play a game in custom and test out what you think is best
I used to switch between Bumper Jumper for SWAT and default for everything else. Since the release of the Halo 4’s control schemes I have switched fully to BJ to practice because it seems the only one I’ll use in Halo 4. It seems the most useful to me.
I have been using Recon for the sole reason I can aim while jetpacking. But given the changes to jetpack since reach, longer recharge time and less heighth, I almost think that using Bumper Jumper may be more beneficial. Since you won’t be able to jetpack as frequently, the ability to aim while jetpacking isn’t as big as a bonus as during Reach.
Also, having melee on right bumper is far more convenient than A button.
Interestingly, I did notice a difference in the controller layouts between some of the different builds I’ve played.
When I played BTB slayer at Fan Expo in Toronto, the Bumper Jumper settings had Armor Abilities on the left trigger, meaning you could jetpack and aim very effectively. The game of Spartan Ops I played at PAX had the same layout.
Apparently both the Spartan Ops and BTB games I played were based on an older build of the game (the same one from E3, I think).
When I played CTF and Regicide at PAX, Bumper Jumper had Grenade Throw back on the left trigger, like previous games.
I’ll be curious to see where everything lands in the final version
It’s kind of funny how the FishStick layout is similar to Call of Duty’s controls because a common abbreviation of Call of Duty is “COD”, which is also a kind of fish.

For me Recon layout all the way with southpaw thumbsticks. I know, but it works.
