Wish i had paddles with the Elite controller so I could boost and aim at same time would be very nice. Opinions?
I have the controller set up with two padddles one on the lwft for jump and on the right for boost. Its does however take a long time to get used to and has probably killed me almost as often as saved me as i keep accudently hitting the paddles when i come under pressure. If you do end up getting the controller id advise 0laying through the campaign at least once with your new layout if you dont want your k/d or w/l to be affected
If you’re like me, I always played well with scope being on the Right Stick, dating back 15 years on Halo:CE. That will open up a Bumper for either Jump or Thrust. I was also used to jumping with A button. Which means the Halo 4 controls fit me the best. Although, if I could get a paddle I might experiment with Bumper Jumper.
It’s kinda preference though and what you’re used to.
Unless you have a scuf or elite controller i strongly suggest Bumper Jumper or Recon it’s how halo was made and should be played any veteran halo player probably would agree and i also recommend 3-5 sensitivity.
I play on Bumper Jumper and use a claw grip so I never have to take my thumbs off of the thumb sticks.
I use the Halo 4 layout just because that is what I have been using for years now.
I like the Halo 4 layout except for the sprint. Sometimes have trouble getting it to activate.
I used to use the Recon controls, but with all the new abilities, I had to adapt to the new default. It’s weird, but it works.
Helljumper. Hands down one of the strongest layouts for h5.
I mapped mine through xbox dashboard though. Mapped movements to lt lb and l3, scope, fire and melee to the rt rb and r3. Nades to a & sprint to x.
Havent looked back since.

How does mapping through the dash work? Is specific to a game?
Recon. Cuz Halo 3 that’s why.

It’s universal between all games. It was recently added as part of the new dashboard. Go to the Xbox Accessories app.
I went back & forth between Halo 4 and Default but ultimately decided that Halo doesn’t feel right without the zoom on the right stick.
But I also wanted crouch to be on the left stick so now I’m using Recon. It’s nice being able to strafe, crouch/uncrouch & aim easily.
I’ve never really used anything other than the standard controls in Halo so I’m gonna stick with Recon for a while since it’s not too unfamiliar, then look into some of the more exotic ones.
XIM4 is the best button layout
