What are you guys’ favorite and least favorite Halo games and why?
Favorite:Halo 5, even though the campaign sucked, the multiplayer made up for it.
Least favorite:Halo 3, I love all the Halo games, and the only reason why Halo 3 is my least favorite is because of the weapon sandbox and mechanics. They sucked. Other than that, Halo 3 is a 10 star game! XD
Loaded question for me b/c I play for many different reasons compared to most Halo players. I’m just an overall Halo nerd that loves the lore (read all books), campaigns, website, achievements (100% besides MCC and chipping away), matchmaking (casually, solo mostly), virtually any aspect of Halo since day 1 of 2001. Hmm…
Favorite Halo 3: Amazing campaign that had closure and felt most open (multiple ways to complete each section). Top notch 4v4 MM. Solid BTB. Nice variety. Fun achievements. Cool unlocks via achievements / accomplishments (via bungie.net).
Least favorite Halo 5: Story, lore and overall campaign disaster (which is probably my favorite aspect of Halo overall, the universe). Great 4v4 arena that is growing on me by the day (finally gave it a chance, and I’m loving it. Just bad currently, lol). WZ FF is a lot of fun with my friends. BTB terrible.
What I love about others:
H1 - Just love this game so much, close to H3 on this list
H2 - Story began to open up and cool plot twists
H4 - Best BTB I’ve played in any Halo, and it’s not close. Arena was bad. Great campaign.
ODST - Sweet music, different
Reach - Hard to say here, but liked it! I guess solid across the board?
My favorite Halo game is Halo 4, for both campaign and multiplayer.
Halo 4’s campaign had the best story, IMO, and having chief talk and be a character instead of an empty suit of armor for us players to fill was much more appealing. The story overall had emotion, heart and soul to it, while the previous Halo games only focused on trying to make you feel like a badass.
I also liked the multiplayer because of the customization offered by personal loadouts, and at the same time it was paced like a Halo game and not like a twitch shooter such as COD. It was the best of both worlds for me.
My least favorite is Halo 5. The campaign left much to be desired, and the multiplayer focused to much on eSports. Previous Halo games were made with fun and enjoyment in mind, and the competitive scene still thrived without the developers catering specifically to them.
Worst - Halo 4
It had a terrible multiplayer in my opinion. It tried to hard to innovate making it feel less like a Halo game.
Best - Halo 3
Amazing campaign, and multiplayer. I might be a little biased since Halo 3 was the first console game I ever owned, but it will forever hold a place in my heart.
I’ve flip-flopped a little bit on my favorite Halo game. It’s either Halo CE or Halo 2. I like Halo CE’s sandbox the best, but Halo 2 brought so much other stuff to the franchise by introducing asymmetric gametypes, Xbox Live play. Overall, Halo 2 was the better game, but Halo CE is more fun.
I’ve also kind of flip-flopped over time on what I think is the worst Halo game. Halo 4 definitely has the worst gameplay, but I despise what Halo 5 stands for. Halo 5’s gameplay is an ever so slight improvement over Halo 4. But, Halo 5 shows a continued commitment by 343 to give a massive middle finger to the classic Halo fans.
Reasons- I liked the variety in H4 there were never two games the same, there were many game types and varrienta of game types. If my halo 4 were still working I’d be playing that over halo 5
Halo 3 multiplayer just didn’t cut it for me, there were so many times when I would actually have to reload a battle rifle in a gun fight because of the rediculously slow bullets. I just didn’t enjoy the game.
Campaign-
Best: Halo 2
Worst: Halo 4
Reasons- halo 2 was great! I liked having some missions as the arbitor and I liked that a lot of the missions felt urban, or city like. I’m an MGS guy (as you could tell by both my Gamertag and Spartan Company) so I like the idea of infiltrating buildings and just the over all feel of being and having a battle in a city.
Halo 4 was the exact opposite of that, I felt that the campaign took too much time in a sort of desolate wasteland. Not great for me.
I know this is probably a very unpopular opinion but halo 3 was my least favorite and reach was my favorite. Halo 3 just didn’t have the replayability any of the new games when it came to customs or campaign. While reach had great forge, great customs, and while the matchmaking wasn’t the greatest, the campaign had a good story with cool levels and easter eggs all over in it.

> EDIT:Dang it I quoted the wrong person sorry.
ODST was very different. Some loved it, some didn’t. I thought it was a cool story.
