Benefits of a no-sprint halo

I know
This topic has been mentioned a BILLION TIMES, and there are countless amounts of arguments against sprint. People start saying all creepy things like
its an illusion,
or
Sprint is not halo
But today im going to be talking why halo is better without sprint, and try my best to not attack sprint.
Halo has succeeded without sprint for about 9 years straight. For those 9 years the halo community was healthy as healthy can be!
600k players a day! Remember that!? Those days were crazy! But enough nostalgia, lets get right in

Halo doesn’t need sprint because it simply revolves without it, the limitations CREATE the essence of halo, where if you were 1-shot, you’d look at the ground and try to crouch jump your way out of it, making you a harder target.
But now, all it is, is a push of a button and you run to cover.
Sprint opens up to all new abilities such as thrusters, slide, charge, all of which completely alienate halo’s true MP design. Back in 2004 the lead designer of halo’s MP said that halo 2 would of had sprint but they recognized MAJOR pacing issues and removed it.
Sprint itself becomes unbalanced, sometimes one guy is going to sprinting and then sometimes another guy is.

And don’t tell me, "You just gotta adapt"
We have been complaining since Reach, about 6 years now. I’m pretty sure it will take us less then 6 years to adapt.
So i dont think its about adapting, its about understanding whether something is needed or not.
343i must realize the consequences of having sprint in halo.

And I know this thread might be terrible

Halo 5 isnt a bad game, infact its a completely different game to halo but what it is, is a masterpiece.
Everything goes with everything else Sooo well, its unbelievable

if you look at the stores.xbox.com and look at most popular, halo 5 isnt even in the top 10.

First of all, Its all a matter of opinion and preference. Wit that said. OP would you be content if the game had a specific gametype, lets call it “halo classic” that had sprint , thrust, Spartan charge and ground pound turned off with the H2 BR as a starting weapon?

Why do the people who hate sprint always talk about “just increase game speed”? To me that sounds like sprinting with out the sprint animation? Increasing game speed is a dumb argument. I don’t have a constructive argument for sprint, other than the simple fact that I like it and that it’s finally in Halo. It always bothered me that Halo didn’t have it back in the day. It just feels right, just all the other abilities do now. Please stop with the sprint threads.

I heard sprint and other abilities effect map design. The more I play, the more I see what they meant. Which is why the maps range from complete garbage to mediocre at best

I really hope the industry trend of not using sprint(Overwatch, CS GO, Doom) starts to rub off on 343.

Sprint separates movement from combat. This doesn’t feel right in Halo as Halo gameplay was built on the concept of movement and combat being one and the same.

Um, no. It was cut because Bungie decided it didn’t fit in properly with Halo gameplay. The same reason they didn’t use it in H3 either.

Even in the video you linked it’s said it was cut due to “pacing issues”. Did you even bother watching the video before posting it lol?

It doesn’t really fit, id rather play a lumbering Spartan, than an acrobat who has cool abilities. Halo should have never introduced sprint. Now the maps don’t look natural anymore.

If Halo 5 were more like doom with fast movement but no sprint, it would certainly be a different game. But thats doesnt automatically mean it would be a better game. Halo 5 still has a ton more issues than just sprint.

Read the reddit forum oh and either way it still ended up in Reach so sprint for halo was being thought of for quite awhile.

The reason people cried foul at Reach’s sprint is because you could sprint away and have your shields recharge at the same time and while you went to chase them they’d either get their shields back or their teammate would sprint to save them. This game the sprint works because your shields don’t recharge when you sprint. As a matter of fact the shield recharge cooldown resets when you sprint. Sprint actually DOES fit well with H5. This is coming from a Halo 3 and MCC 50.

Get ready for a counter argument! LOL Well not from me, because I agree with the decision and I find it dumb that people keep sprinting without letting their shields recharge.

I’d like H6 to not have sprint

Actually while it works more balanced, its still considered a band-aid solution since there’s a greater problem with sprint than just its mechanics. Ever notice how the remastered midship is over twice the size than the original? Or even from 3’s? Or that 4 and 5 lack small maps in general? It’s because they’re increased in size despite the same number of recommended players to accommodate sprint. Maps are warped around for sprint and if you remove sprint to have that classic feel, that doesnt change the size of the maps which kinda ruins the point of any classic modes for classic fans.

I personally dont care for sprint either way, but I can easily understand why people want it removed altogether from development.

YES DEFINATELY
but with a forge remake as the h5 maps are designed with sprint in mind

Halo lost a bit of its charm when sprint was implemented. EX Old halos= Fighting in an decimated city where rubble acts as your cover, Halo 5= oddly specific city that doesn’t even look like normal people can live in it (built around sprint), see halos 5s level design is not believable when compared to other halos. Sprint also drove a lot of people away, need proof just ask my 9 friends that left because of it. Im not saying sprint is bad for Fps’s, but For halo it is!

Oh and opinion on the waypoint forums how rude of me!

It wouldn’t work. The maps, kill times and weapons ease of use were all based on having all of those things in the game. If you just ripped them out the game would feel broken and slow. It would require setting that 343i don’t give us access to in order to make that work.

it would work if we made a forge remake designed for #nosprint and then change the movement speed in customs, i think it would KINDA work
