Hello Spartans!

I am back with another map in the making. This time it’ll be a 4v4 all game type map, symmetrical design, and covenant themed. I will post screenshots at important points in the map’s development to show yall how to start your own someday. All screenshots are through Xbox DVR.

Screenshot 1: Heres the absolute base template. I picked Parallax as my canvas, with the ascendance background. Ive got a ton of ideas brewing but it will take some starting segments to filter out the best options.

Screenshot 2: Began with corner structures and copied them around. Map is an 8 design, with a natural/structural blend. Two bases and intent of assault, ctf, strongholds, neutral flag, and of course slayer.

Screenshot 3: Beefed up the natural region on the south side of the map. you cant see it in the picture, but theres a tunnel under the ramp.

What’s a list of steps you take like first a foundation and layout and then background or what?

You can look at the Election: in the making thread for a second map built step by step. I dont always start with a template, but its good for people who get that creative block. some of the good templates to use are:

Square, rectangle, circle, A frame, E frame (election), C frame, and then you get strange ones like X frame, Y frame, and Z frame.

Basically, set up the frame and take a walk around with your spartan. check to see if the sheer distance is reasonable for your game mode (2v2, 4v4, or 8v8). If the distance checks out, you can begin construction on, well, everything else. As you can see, I started with corner structures and moved from there.

You should have some general idea of whats going where, but dont force a design into a template, let it flow in a natural manner. Typically what i do is decide what regions of the map are going to be elevated, then move from there.
