Behold!

The effectiveness of the Reach true skill system.

I am very proud of Bungie, and of 343, in creating and maintaining such a near flawless system of matching players according to skill. As you can tell in the above link, each and every player (including the opposing team) were matched based on how we’ve performed in game thus far. It’s simply amazing that this system accomplishes so much that other shooters (and games with an online competitive experience) fall short when it comes to providing mostly fair, even matches.

Please discuss your experiences (and criticisms) of Reach’s mind blowing true skill system.

It almost makes me want to start searching playlists alone.

I don’t know. Seems fairly decent.

It’s more than decent. The game above clearly shows superior skill based pairings.

LOL, you are such a monster that you accounted for most of the true skill for your team!

On a serious note, as the population shrinks, the true skill matching is going to get worse then it was before. I have noticed some very lopsided matches as of late.

Maybe it was. Gave you a decent challenge against decent people who together could be matched against you. Maybe you should have evaluated the situation to see how they were winning and try to change it.

It was mostly fair, i said mostly because only two or three players weren’t exactly up to par and thus not as challenging as i hoped but everyone else carried their own weight. As you can tell, most players in that game went mildly positive with very few sub optimal performances.

I noticed this ages ago. 9/10 times I end up in a lopsided match. I quit playing anyways.

As a random in TS, I regularly end up with one solid teammate and two that are substandard.

The two substandard will generally account for most of the deaths on the team. Just the way it goes as a random I guess =/ I have grown accustomed to it and use it to my advantage. They become my bait.

I do it all the time. I give them targets, allocate weapons, provide support, etc. Once I was given praise for my team work, not because I was using the Banshee, but because I was pointing out targets of opportunity and preventing my teammates from dying by firing at people trying to take them out.

Really? Most of the matches i end up anything but abysmal. I hardly ever get bad matches because the system is doing it’s job; matching up players near my relative skill level and mine to theirs for simple, clean, and competitive matches. The randoms communicate with mics (most of the time) and listen as we dominate the other team. Even if some don’t, they are competent to know what to do and i just work with them to take out vehicles, hold power weapons, hold the objective etc.

It’s quite rare that I end up playing against foreign host, since the game realizes that i am from the States and pairs me up with players in that general vicinity instead of ruining the experience for our friends in Japan, Australia, New Zealand etc. 1 out of 100 matches are the exception to the rule of course since no system is perfect but this one in Reach comes pretty damn close, which i already provided an example of.

This is searching solo too.

Clearly we should all bow down to your superior skill as playing as a random. Heaven knows when I do search solo and try to help my teammates, they don’t give two hoots about “targets of opportunity” or any such thing.

How do you manage to get teammates that are so receptive all the time?!

Who needs visible ranks?

Argh, I agree. For me, I either wreck in BTB and Team Slayer, but go into MLG and get bagged. There’s no middle ground :\

The whole going into teams thing kinda sucks too, because you end up going up against a team of 8 spawnkillers on Wayont. Hate that map…

Asphalt and Graveyard are also terrible on Heavies. Of course, in the case of spawn trap on Grave, it’s easy to find hiding places and go afk while your team gets spawn pwned.

Simple. I stop caring about my K/D :3
It’s even as simple as driving your Warthog up to someone and honking. Once he realises that you’re allowing him to get kills he’ll jump on.

I just went 86-10 and lost a game of Invasion… Dont think my team knew how to play

> I just went 86-10 and lost a game of Invasion… Dont think my team knew how to play

Did you drive up in a Warthog and honk at them?
