Behemoth Needs BR Starts

Behemoth is a great-looking map that has a lot of potential, but I think it is far too big and open for the current AR starts in the tech preview. Every match I’ve played on this map feels very unbalanced and whichever team controls the sniper towers on either side of the map seems to win easily. The biggest problem I notice is the spawns. It seems many of the spawn points are on the corners of the map where you’re stuck in the open with an easy sightline from the sniper tower. At this point, the other team has ranged weapons and there is no way to counter them. Not only is there only one BR on each side of the map that is deadly to cross to from the corner spawn, but either sniper tower also spawns the two most powerful vehicles on the map (warthog/ghost). This leads to every match feeling extremely one-sided as one team is always stuck in spawn with no way to counter the range and the power the other team has by controlling snipe towers. By starting with the BR, the team without control at least has a fighting chance to put shots onto the controlling team to reach the base and set up a counter. Maybe I’m missing something so feel free to discuss.

I’m never against BR starts, but I feel like they could have separate game-modes for that like in the MCC

I have absolutely noticed how abysmal the spawns are on Behemoth. For it’s size a 4v4 should be pretty okay but I’ve found myself spawning next to the enemy team, or within plain view of them. The snipers are pretty deadly too, and there’s not much cover to use when you spawn on the corners out in the open. I’m hoping spawning gets some kind of a retune in general because I’ve noticed getting shot at on spawn and seen people spawn in front of me from the other team on other maps. Behemoth would probably be better if it had a lot more precision weapons than automatics, like spawning with BRs or placing some more weapon spawns holding such things.

I’m fine with it being the way that it is, it forces you to play with the other guns in the sandbox like the commando and shock rifle. I’ve definitely played some one sided matches, but that had more to do with the team completely splitting up and never sticking together than anything else. If they do BR starts no one is going to be going for any of the other weapons on the map aside from power weapons. I’d much rather them keep it the way that it is now. The one gripe I do have is the vehicles, their spawn rate is one sided at times. Not to mention how weak they seam to be.

Seems fine to me

I’m not convinced starting with a BR would fix the sniper problem you mentioned, and trust me I know exactly what you mean, though I wouldn’t be against more BR spawns around the map. Also this is just my opinion, but I always hated starting with a weapon that can hit you across the map, the pistol seems fine because it’s actually hard to hit at a distance, but BR seems to long range of a starter, perhaps the commando since the recoil makes actually killing your opponent a bit harder of a challenge.

I would be more inclined to agree with AR starts if some changes to the map were made. I think in its current state you are forced to take long-range encounters. If the spawns were reworked, more ranged weapons were placed on the map, or more cover was added, then I think AR/pistol start would be more viable. If you’re stuck in spawn against a good team, you’re inevitably stuck in the open, I’m suggesting the BR start as way to give a fighting chance to get out of that situation but I think there are other solutions as well.

Agreed, i see where you’re coming from and I think adding more BR spawns on the map would be another solution to the issue I’m having with this map.

I wonder if a pulse rifle start would be any different than BR? I haven’t been able to use it a whole lot in MP, against a still opponent it’s pretty much 2 bursts to the head and you get a kill, but it’s a bit difficult to land a shot since the shots have a kind of homing thing going on. If anything it’d probably make TTK even quicker especially in the hands of someone that’s got the hang of it, but it’d be interesting to see. More cover like Gamma175 said would also be very welcome and would make autos a lot more viable in the map, maybe more cover around the towers and in the corners of the map, while still keeping that “road” for the hog and the ghost. Maybe some more underground tunnels that connect to where the needler spawns are? Or they could be tunnels to the middle of the map by overshield, only they come out just below overshield, and have grav lifts that launch you to it. There’s a few changes that could be made to the map but it’s a matter of how difficult would it be to implement them, I doubt that anything like that would be done before launch. I guess we’ll just need to wait for forge and make our own version?
