in the original legendary ending serina was not rampant so it has to be just after halo wars or after halo 5 and the brutes are heavily armed so it has to be the human covenant war or after the created claimed the mantle. I personally believe after because of the spartan 4 wire frame and the foundry world on the ark being damaged
I made a topic that explained why I believe Halo Wars 2 takes place after Halo 5. Still believe so if the setting displayed on the leaked image is to be believed as the main setting for the game.
im really confused on this one it seems like it takes place after halo 5 for the covenant side but look at the UNSC the BR they are using aren’t in service during and after the events of halo 5 and all marines are wearing pre human-covenant war armor and same for Spartans but then we go to the brutes and it seems there way more advanced in warfare than they were during the war this may just be a different faction of brutes but that still doesn’t explain that huge scarab looking thing and the weaponry in the image.

remember the spirit of fire has been isolated for some time now
I’m hoping for before, but I have a strong feeling it is going to be after.

I hope for before Halo 5 - and that the story is world better than Halo 5… But we saw a Mantis in one Screenshot so maybe after… Would be, i my opinion, funny, when u have forerunners in the game.

Why not both? If we go off of what we have we can potentially have a game that spans something like 30 years worth of Halo History.
The Legendary ending, as stated hints post Halo Wars 1 within maybe about a year or so after.
If you read the Escalation Comic, it is hinted that someone (Brutes I believe) came into contact with the Spirit of Fire aroundish Halo 4 (like, a couple months to a year or so before the events of Halo 4). I won’t spoil what happens for those still looking to read it but there is a plot line that at least touches on the Spirt of Fire (though it’s not massive, it’s there).
Finally we have the supposed cover art, which shows the follow:
-The Ark (looking a bit beat up, meaning post Halo 3 at the very least)
-A bunch of Spartans (I think something like 7 is the popular number)
-Organized Brutes ( While I didn’t read it I believe the novel, Halo: Last Light touched on this)
-Technologically Advanced Brutes (Energy Hammer? Massive Scarabs? Created anyone?)
I think it’s very possible that Halo Wars 2 can span YEARS of content, if they so wanted.
I believe the game take place when the Spirit of Fire’s status was changed to lost with all hands(I can’t remember the date). I do know it was before Halo 5 though.
