Been playing a little over an hour a day and still haven't completed my weekly challenges

It’s day 6 of S2 week 1 and I still haven’t finished grinding my challenges.

I’ve been craving a BTB binge all week but the challanges said no.

I play for an hour+ a day to use the Double XP with the XP Bonus from your first few games. So sure maybe 1-3 hours today to finish it off.

But by the time I complete it I’ll be too burnt out to actually play the modes I wanna play. Without even getting to catch my breath before a new week of challenges tomorrow.

I know it’s only about 10 hours a week but I’m getting sick of games feeling like a part time job to go alongside my IRL job.

The challenge system is just balls, and the fact it staggers all these challenges with the dumb Upcoming Weekly Challenges is not “slowing down progression”, it’s straight up anti fun. I get that F2P games need some gating but 343 has taken it to the next level multiple times.

Halo Infinite is by far the worst Halo in 343’s history of making Halo when it comes to people actually having fun. It’s not even a stretch to say people had more fun in H4 and H5 than Infinite.

I only played one day this week and I completed every challenge in 4 - 5 hrs (I don’t buy the battle pass so I can only go for 3 challeneges at a time).

Try optimizing the challeneges you go for by looking at upcoming challenges (it’s really easy for an event like this). For example, I had to get 10 kills with an energy sword, get 10 Melee kills in LSS, and get 5000 in LSS. I knew I had an upcoming challenge to get 10000 in LSS, so I played Fiesta to get the Energy Sword kills first. This allowed me to go for 3 LSS challenges at the same time, two of which were the same thing (score).

Once I started strategically going for challenges to optimize completion I always finish the weekly challenges, usually completed all in the same day.

Man imagine if we could just play the modes and unlock stuff by doing well.

Some times you get an easy set of challenges and sometimes you don’t. I used swaps and planned to try knock as many of them out as possible at the same time yet it still took that long. It’s luck of the RNG draw.

Man imagine trying to keep the thread on topic

I’d say getting rid of challenges could be related to a thread on the woes of challenges!

I mean that’s pretty much how it works, the better you do the faster you complete challenges. A top player might hit 2000 score in a single game while other players might need 2 games.

OP was saying it takes them ~10 hrs a week to finish the challenges, it shouldn’t take that long which is why I offered a suggestion.

The one silver lining of this challenge system is it encourages you to leave your comfort zone, I wouldn’t have even touched Lone Spartan Standing if it wasn’t for this event (I’d just stick to BTB), but I actually enjoyed playing it much more than your typical FFA.

At the end of the day all you get for challenges are cosmetics, and you aren’t even going to touch 90% of them so you literally can just play the game (and you will still unlock stuff, just not optimally).

I played an hour a day and I completed the Challenges well before the weekend. I’d start the day with a Double XP Boost, complete what Challenges I could in that hour, and when the hour was up all I did afterwards was make progress on my current Challenges until I was just about to complete them and then wait until the next day to pop another Double XP Boost, eat up all that easy XP, and repeat the process.

I’ll probably be around Level 25 by the time the next week starts.

Seeing what the Upcoming Challenges will be will help. If you have a “Kill This Many Spartans” in a particular mode like Fiesta but then take a look and see that you have another Fiesta Challnege (Win/Play Fiesta), then just do another Challenge to have that pop up and then complete both Challenges.

As always, I do wish the Challenges were configured better to give you more freedom to play whatever game mode you want but overall I’ve found completing them every week to be pretty easy. Actually spent the weekend playing BTB to try out Breaker and the other changes that they made for the BTB Maps.

Granted there is an element of RNG, but I did fine stacking all the LSS stuff. 3 of my last 4 challenges were all ‘Complete X matches’ so that went down easily.

Some swapping did occur to make that happen, tho.

For me, this is my first Halo game that I decided to actually get in to. I was looking at customization videos from the previous games for ideas of what to expect- I was pretty excited to have a new FPS game where I would be continuously unlocking new armor pieces to make my spartan look cool as hell-

Instead of playing the modes I like, I’m playing the ones the challenges are asking me to, because I enjoy collecting as much as possible stuff in any video game I play.
Now say they made every week long event a permament addition to the game- Depending on what mode you que for, your challenges would change for the game mode- Que BTB? Here’s a list of BTB challenges. Que for Fiesta? Here’s the challenges for the fiesta event mode as well as the pass for those unlocks-
You could hop from one to another game mode without worrying about not working on something for an unlock. That is what I believe would make challenges atleast tolerable AND respect your time.

To those who would say “Well that’s the point of a limited event”, to you I ask, What’s the point of limited time events in a game that’s struggling to retain players to begin with? Can’t this game use all the game modes it can get?

“Hey man you gotta download Halo Infinite, they have this new FFA Gun game event going on that you can’t que with your friends with and there’s exclusive rewards for a week long! You know, so long as you do the challenges that add a lot of engagement and fun to the game! Oh, and sometimes not all the challenges will be for that game mode though, but you can buy challenge swaps! Also, the challenges for LSS are bugged so make sure to restart your game or stay until the very end of every match!”

The only way to really have fun is not worry about challenges or cosmetics

A true warrior doesn’t care if his Spartan is dressed up real cute on the battlefield

I agree with you to an extent, but if our criticisms can sway the devs to make it fun AND we get to look real cute?
I mean that would be lit!

Right? The only acceptable solution is to remove the challenge system entirely.

If we start accepting these half -Yoink!- compromises about “we will remove the bad challenges” only for them to replace them with ones that are even worse, then they win.

Well I’d meet them half way if they did something how I described above, with a different set of challenges per game mode as opposed to your challenge pool coming from EVERY game mode. (I would be wholly okay with no challenges too, but I don’t see them nuking the challenge system atm)

And then limited events- Just don’t make em limited. I wanna play BTB and not stress about those 50 LSS kills I’m supposed to be getting :triumph: :triumph: :triumph:
I don’t see the point in having limited time game modes. People say it gets people to come back, but would it not be better if people came back for PERMAMENT game modes with exclusive rewards inside them that… You can come back to ANY time?
Like.
I just don’t see the point!

So… I wasn’t even particularly lucky with my challenges this week, and it took me 7 hours of in-game time tops to do all the challenges (almost certainly less but I don’t feel like counting). There were only two days that I sat down and really played a bunch (Tuesday/Saturday), the rest of the time I logged in just to get a couple matches in the morning for a little bonus experience.

Some other people have mentioned it, but are you grouping your challenges together to achieve them in the most efficient way possible? For example: If you know that event challenges are coming up and you’ve got 2 non-event challenges to do, you do these first so the next time you’re playing LSS all of your currently active challenges are incrementing?

I do understand, not wanting to play a specific game mode but being forced to in order to achieve specific challenges. I’m also against this, I believe the most acceptable in this regard is the get a overall score in this mode.
I also believe the challenge swaps should allow you to pick out of three challenge. Often I swap a challenge and I get one I hate even more.

Event challenges I’m somewhat okay with but it should be separated from overall challenges or at the very least all challenges can be unlocked at once instead of the only top 4 or 5. Quick easy fixes that don’t need overhauls on 343s part.
Now by you not having challenges completed in a specific time it’s because you would rather focus on the game mode you want. Which makes sense given what I stated above. Personally I completed all the challenges in a total of 6 hours in a week.

So play the meta as opposed to what you think is fun?

@Aristocus I like collecting as many things as possible too, and like you this is essentially the first Halo game I’ve really gotten into (I’ve played them all but never has a Halo Game been my top game to play until this one, its literally all I play when I get a chance now). There was a big learning curve for me with Halo, it’s not exactly easy for new players to just pick it up and play there’s a bigger skill gap than CoD for example.

I don’t think Events are made to attract new players, to me they just keep things interesting week to week. It sounds like we both love BTB (it’s my go to mode), but if I only played BTB I’d probably get quite bored after a while too be honest. For me, the challenges motivate me to try other game modes and I like that. It gets me to leave my comfort zone and rewards me for doing it too. The first match of LSS I played I thought “Wow this game mode sucks”. A played a couple more, adjusted and started to enjoy myself, I think I won 50% of my matches. So I like that part of the Challenge system… sometimes people need a push to try other things and if you go into these things with a positive outlook you might like it.

If the goal is to grind out challenges each week as fast as possible? Then yeah. The challenge system’s current design doesn’t care about what the player “thinks” is fun.
