A couple of my friends have expressed their frustration with “Library” on legendary difficulty. I cleared it tonight and if you’re having trouble with it, follow this strategy and you’ll be fine:
*Keep the flood in front of you at all times
*Keep your Assault rifle and acquire a shotgun ASAP
*Use the corners of the hallways as covers, Infection Forms will jump the triangular walls, but combat forms will not. If you camp at the edge of a corner with a shotgun waiting for combat forms, it’s seriously fish-in-a-barrel.
*Use the shotgun on Combat Forms and Carrier Forms
*Use the AR on Infection Forms, but try to spray controlled bursts at large groupings of them. To save ammo, let small groups bite you if you aren’t being attacked by Combat Forms (IFs only do a lot of damage in LARGE groups) and for fun, master the art of rifle butting them out of the air as they’re jumping at you!
*Use Carrier Forms to your advantage- shoot one in the middle of a group of Combat Forms and you’ve basically improvised a grenade.
*Take note of health packs you pass, don’t be afraid to back track for them before jumping on an elevator.
Finally…
*KILL EVERYTHING!!!
Don’t let any of them live. Take your time, don’t let them get behind you and don’t try to sprint to the next section. That may work on normal, but not on legendary. Clearing the area entirely will also grant you access to far more checkpoints and allow you to do things like back-track for health packs and ammo. This isn’t Call of Duty or Battlefield 3, enemies won’t randomly respawn to give you the illusion of an epic battle. EVERY battle in Halo CEA is an epic battle, but you’re a Spartan! And Spartans never die!
I’m not sure why people have difficulty with the library. I found it to be easy, I found T&R to be very frustrating considering the bugs that were there when I first played.
Library is one of my favorite levels actually. I like being in structures majority of times.
I find the pistol/shotty to be the best combination. Basically, the farther away you can keep the enemy at all times, the better. Kill 'em with the pistol before they get up close, and then finish 'em off with the shotty if they do.

While that may be the easy option, there’s really no need to at all. With the grenade spam the amount of times you’ll likely end up killing yourself through obscene chain reactions is beyond a joke. If you just play the level normally, then pick up a Shotgun and use either the Pistol, Needler, or even Rocket Launcher you’re pretty much set.
In all honsety, if you take your time and don’t go rushing through any areas causing a Flood army too amass behind you, you’re pretty much golden whatever weapon you have. In fact, when I did it on Legendary, I pretty much used exclusively the Shotgun (after using the pistol to amass a fair amount of ammo for it anyway), since you get plenty of ammo for it in the mission, not to mention that compared the newer Shotguns, the effective range is ludicrous (which is kinda funny now I think about it, haha). Same way I did it back in the day on CE, same way I did it on CEA.
