Remember how the Spartan Laser used to be sweepable to some extent causing three separate beams? Well 343 has recently vowed that will no longer be possible.
There is some evidence the beam rifle is back, meaning no more focus rifle, which I approve of. The focus rifle was a little to non-sniper-ish and had some gameplay issues.
What it did well compared to the old beam rifle was change the way the Covie and the UNSC sniper operated. In other Halos, the beam rifle was powerful, but really redundant. I just don’t feel like its overheat vs reload system really made it its own weapon.
So what if the beam rifle had a beam emission similar in length of time to the old Spartan Laser, meaning it could be slightly sweepable to some extent. Now if you did this, the beam would split a little like the Splazer used to, and the smaller beam’s power would be reduced (spit to three? one third power).
To get the full one shot you’d have to connect with the entire beam, of course, but in desperation or to clean up kills with rapid target acquisition it could pose a mild advantage (gameplay difference) from the UNSC sniper, as you could raise your chances of a lucky sweep snipe.
So once again, its not like the focus rifle, but retains a slight portion of what bungie was going for as far as finding a way to differentiate the two snipers.
LOVE THIS? HATE THIS? THINK THIS IS IN ANYWAY LIKELY TO BE 343’S SOLUTION? lemme know
no body said that both the beam rifle and Focus Rifle couldnt be back. I personally liked the Focus better, It was unique, Not the simple reskin of the UNSC Sniper that was the Beam Rifle.

Just pointing something out, the Focus Rifle was a reskin of the Sentinel Beam.

The only reason the focus rifle ever existed was because the sentinel beam couldn’t fit in the game. That’s really all it was, a sentinel beam with a scope. The Beam Rifle actually acts like a sniper. Why would you have a long range weapon that takes so long to kill?
I picked garbage idea for lack of a better option. I don’t like the split beam sweep because some of my lucky one shot snipes were from a fast scope sweep. Splitting the beam and reducing power during a sweep would render that entirely impossible.
How about this? Bring back the beam rifle reduce firerate slightly so you can’t just doulde tap a target in one second. No recoil or bloom or spread but when you fire it causes a bright glare of light only seen in the scope so you don’t light up to everyone else so that way you have to work to keep that target. You’ll be momentarily blinded and make it able to shoot halfway through the broadside of a warthog. About 3-4 feet of projectile penetration. If you know where to shoot the skilled can use it to shoot people out of vehicles while doing relatively little harm to the vehicle. Now that would be a neat sniper. Also make bullet penetration so it only does it to vehicles not scenery. Balance feature for prometian vision so they can’t just snipe through walls all day.

DURR!!!
Because Canon/lorewise that focus rifle melts faces of anyone but Spartans, it’s actually wickedly deadly.
For multiplayer purposes, it was fine, it had a more psychological effect than immediate death - variety, you could pin people down, lock them in an area, and simply pew pew at them slightly, to make them take cover and overall become immobile and unable to assist teammates with other tasks.
And if you caught someone in the open, the -Yoink!- thing certainly killed people.
The Beam Rifle is meh, an oversized needler but general copy of the sniper rifle.

It was a re-skin of the sentinal beam with a scope

> ELITE RANGER
> The Elites are back in Halo 4, including the popular Ranger variant as depicted in Halo: Reach. Elite Rangers feature a fully-sealed environment suit and an airtight helmet with clear visor; perfect for extra-vehicular activity in the vacuum of space. Our Elite Ranger figure comes with the redesigned, Halo 4 version of the Beam Rifle.
I would like to see an entirely new adaptation of a Covenant sniper. Maybe a kind of fine-tuning between the focus rifle and the beam rifle. Or a kind of “NeedlerSniper” hybrid. That might be interesting.

Not talking about canon are we? We’re talking about gameplay.
I have never found myself at the mercy of a focus rifle. The kill time is far too slow for it to even feel like I’m in danger.
How is the Beam Rifle anything like a needler? And so what if it’s like the sniper rifle? That’s it’s purpose.
> So a swiping beam rifle that is essentially the halo 3 laser? … no
Only the Halo 3 Beta’s laser was actually possible to separate, but when you did separate it, it wouldn’t kill three targets because there wasn’t enough power in one of the beams to kill someone with full health.
