Post a comment here if you think the Beam Rifle and/or sentinel beam from Halo 3 were great weapons and that the focus rifle couldn’t light a candle to either of them. I hope they never attempt to “merge” two guns like this again. And if you want both/either of these guns to return!
Before you start saying “you don’t know what enemies are in H4” there’s still no reason why they couldn’t just come back with different names like the concussion rifle/brute shot did.
Oh and feel free to post a comment if you disagree also
I thought it was the Beam Rifle and the Sentinel Beam were both greater than the Focus Rifle. To be honest, I think the Focus Rifle is a very Covenant ideal weapon but I agree it should be more powerful. That it’s scoped the way it is, I wouldn’t mind 25% more damage on it. 35% even. I know 100% stronger is way too much.
More damage at the expense of ammo but keep the overheating rate as is… I like that idea for myself.
The beam rifle was great for team snipers. It added another element of gameplay you had to be aware of. I would like it back for multiplayer, even if it isn’t canonically accurate.

I liked the sentinal beam too. You rarely got to use it but it was great for customs

IMO The covenent NEEDED a sniper for balancing issues. In Reach more than in H3
Also they had the same damage, but different fire rates, and one needed reloading and and the other overheated. Also I think the BR (beam rifle to avoid confusion) took more skill to use. But that might just have been the reticle shape…plus it didn’t have a screen (I find it usefull for no scopes)
They could make it more different but keep it as a sniper weapon. Maybe longer scope?

It still comes off as a copy and paste job of the Sniper Rifle.
Sure there’s little edits and differences made here and there and it’s a different color but in the end of the day it still shots a single shot powerful shot with absolutely no splash. If it hits the head it kills, the body and it mortally wounds.
Invasion Slayer fails because it tries to match up unequally powered weapons against each other and expects them to be equal.
Wraith will never equal the Scorpion. Nor the Launcher equal Rockets.
Normal Invasion has it better. P3 on Boneyard and Elites get Wraith AND Banshee while Spartans only get the Scorpion.
Balance with unequal weapons in an Invasion setting can come from staggering them and leveraging quantity versus quality.

But like I said the covenent NEED a sniper…An elite holding a human sniper just looks…wrong.
I could just as easily say the needle rifle is a copy and paste of the DMR, but imagine invasion without it…

For Invasion? An Elite holding a Human weapon looks wrong only if it’s not being improvised by the player through his actions.
Do they need a direct copy and paste of the Sniper and other Power Weapons and Vehicles? No. One gametype doesn’t justify it. Not when balance can be achieved, like I said, through staggering the weapon and vehicle drops and pairing quality against quantity.

I’d still like the sentinal beam back though. I honestly liked it more than the beam rifle and thought it was very overlooked.
Also SvE gametypes had so much potential which was lost…
SvE slayer, generator defense and FF verses were all fun. It wasn’t just one gametype.

The Sentinel Beam was never placed on any maps save for two Community Maps.

I like the Focus Rifle but as a Covenant “equivalent” of the UNSC Sniper and a replacement of the Beam Rifle? No, it fails in comparison. Beam Rifle needs to be brought back but that doesn’t mean the Focus Rifle has to go.
The Focus Rifle could be altered/tweaked/“buffed” and be made very useful but just not as a Sniper.
