Beam Rifle in Snapshot Gametype

I for one was very excited for the addition of the snapshots Gametype. Noscoping is something I’ve always done fairly well at, and the option of choosing a Gametype that was focused on this presented a challenge to me since as of late I had neglected to visit the snipers playlist as frequently as I used to, and as a result my skills are lackluster in comparison to what I used to have.

My one concern was with the choice of using the beam rifle as a primary weapon. It was stated that the choice was made due to the ease of use when came to no scoping with the beam rifle, which would naturally made it a suitable choice. However, I personally feel that using the beam rifle as a primary is almost like giving everybody training wheels who plays in the Gametype, regardless of skill level, and I feel like it takes away from the experience. Honestly, it almost feels like SWAT in some cases. The kills come quick and fairly easy, and there’s stuff that I’ve pulled off with the beam rifle that I know I would have had more difficulty doing with the human sniper.

While I will say that I enjoy the Gametype overall, I feel like having the beam rifle as a primary negatively impacts the experience. Because of this, I think it should be used instead as a map spawn power weapon, similar to how it was in the original snipers Gametype, and would not be saddened to see it removed altogether.

If you haven’t already, please be sure to post your thoughts in the Team Snipers thread in the “War Games Feedback” session, in addition to stating them here. It’ll increase the chances of 343i seeing them.

I’m sure if it was intended to lean competitive they would have used the UNSC sniper.

Since it seems to be intended to be a highly accessible “party” game type, I’m sure they just felt that the UNSC sniper punished people that haven’t cultivated a fairly niche skill too much.

The only reason that only Snapshots count toward kills is that you spawn with a Beam Rifle. Take the Beam Rifle out, and you take out the entire point of the gametype.

I posted in the Team Snipers feedback topic that the gametype is a lot of fun, but would be better suited to Action Sack due to the Beam Rifle being so noncompetitive.
