I highly suggest anyone who thinks any sort of lootbox mechanic coming over from Halo 5 is alright with coming back…
Be like Nintendo and CD Projekt Red Microsoft, don’t prey upon your loyal fans and playerbase, have some balls and make the game’s systems like the days of Reach and don’t charge us for the things Bungie let us unlock for free over time, especially if the MCC will be using this same system for the Reach port, and DOOM 2016, which only sold new cosmetic sets alongside mappack DLC, just as you once did as Halo 4.
Be the like the Heroic characters in the lineup you prop up for Xbox’s first party lineup you love to advertise so much…
While I don’t support the microtransactions in full priced video games, especially from companies that are AAA, I wouldn’t say its likely we won’t see the removal of some form of microtransaction. In Halo 5 we had the REQ System, which even though everything(except announcers to my recollection) was earnable, it gave those who could buy and buy the advantage in Warzone. While there is some legal resistance to stuff like lootboxes, I don’t see them going away anytime soon.
But hey, I dunno. Maybe its completely possible for 343 to work without the REQ System and improve upon the game’s integrity and the trust of the people who play their games. But at the same time, maybe not. Maybe we will get microtransactions.

Strawman. Each map pack was worth it’s price. Nowhere did they ever strip you of any content, be it the ability to play a certain gamemode.

That, and I was referring to Reach in this post, not Halo 3, which is pretty well feature-complete for all gamemodes (aside from the CEA modes), as Forge maps made up for playlists where DLC maps used up more of the map pool.

I wanted to address this separately from the other reply due to an important thing to note.
I am not against buying ingame cosmetics only outright, I simply don’t believe it should be ethical or right to have to spin a roelette wheel every time I make a purchase, when I just want to purchase a specific item.
Leave random chance out of this, normal DLC is perfectly okay.

Yes they did.
In fact it’s been that way for so long that Halo Waypoint even has an FAQ on it, many years later. Technically, you still can’t play those playlists without the DLC, the DLC is just free now to work around it.
Half the whole FAQ is “Why can’t I play in X playlist?” “All DLC is required to play in X playlist.”
343 has already said that Infinite will have no paid lootboxes and no premium currency to get lootboxes. Your request has been answered for several months.

Wait, when did 343i confirmed there was no premium currency either? Maybe I just forgot, but I thought that old tweet was solely speaking about paid lootboxes? Was there a follow-up that I missed somehow?
In that case I’m curious to see what the MTs are going to be. The only thing that still could ruin a normal progression and leveling system with bloated grinding at this point are booster packs! …or something more innovative like MK11 demonstrated recently!
Wow! The AAA gaming market has dissapointed me so many times in the last decade, even when I get good news my mind goes automatically to: “how are they going to screw us than” question mark! Kinda sad.

I agree, sadly. I’m so suspicious of some devs / publishers. I hate rng, I despise loot boxes, if Halo Infinite avoids both ? Excellent, we know paid loot boxes are out, but I’m still worried about rng, in game currency and what will be monetised.

Exactly! And I get it, we’re talking about companies. The goal is to make as much money as possible while art and production quality is often is seen as secondary by marketing teams and sales offices. I should know seeing my past work environments.
Fine by me! But publishers are really going too far now. When was the last time regulations had to be discussed to prevent gambling addictions in minors?! And than you get banned when you describe such a practice with certain definitions that I’m not going to repeat here. And no, I don’t mean foul words! If you don’t want the public to point out how negatively your game can impact society, pro-tip: don’t gather to people (especially minors) with gambling addiction!
That time when “Think about the kids” is not an ironic comment.
This era of gaming saddens me and for the first time I’m even ashamed for my hobby. Even announced masterpieces like Cyberpunk by CD Project are being trashed by the media, and when you check where the payroll starts it’s always AAA publishers. Strange. The one company that denounced publicly such practices are not well seen by certain companies. Weird isn’t it?
You’ll be happy to hear that there will be no paid loot boxes in Infinite, that doesn’t rule out loot boxes all together though. You better believe there will be mtx, let’s just hope they’re not EA/Epic level bad.

Yep that’s what I personally want too. You know people are going to go ballistic anyway if there are any at all but that’s just the reality of the MP industry, cosmetic only mtx is the lesser evil.
