Be more like CE?

I did not start with Halo CE, I started with Halo 2, I did not like Halo 2, I picked up Halo CE and I was instantly in love.

Halo CE had a great campaign, it had a good bit of variety with levels, from The Pillar of Autumn to Silent Cartographer to The Library to Keyes, each level really stood out in its own way. The AI in Halo CE has been my favorite so far, it’s just great, on legendary they aren’t all super buffed up and just sponge all your bullets, if you die on legendary it’s your fault, you messed up, you were on equal grounds with the AI. However some AI can be pretty scary, The Elite Zealot, the Hunters (well if you don’t have the god pistol or sniper), the Rocket Launcher Flood, etc. Even the Jackals were more challenging.
The story was also one of the best I’d have to say, on par with ODST and 4, it really benefited from a novelization.
I’d love to see its gameplay refined to make it feel smoother, but it had some good gameplay.

Now multiplayer, it was Halo 2 that turned me away from multiplayer as a whole, but I really have enjoyed Halo CE PC Multiplayer which I’ve had since yesterday, it’s amazing how 2,3 matches of Halo CE PC can provide me enjoyment when it hasn’t it 9 years. It is incredibly fun, I personally think I like it because, and I’m going to get hate for this, there’s no ranks. The lack of ranks doesn’t make the game any worse, in fact I’d say it makes it better, people don’t have to worry about having a high digital number by their name so they can just focus on getting kills but Halo CE still maintains a competitive environment

Halo CE may have became my favorite Halo game, and I personally, would love to see Halo return to CE’s roots, not 2, not 3, not Reach, not 4

Interesting post. I wouldn’t mind returning to the simplicity that is Halo CE but I think they could fit in all the weapons and vehicles that Halo 4 has.

I started with 2 as well, and I agree on it being a nice even playing field in CE, but I also miss the old ranking system. Made me drive for competition more it seemed.

I don’t know, I’ve never liked ranking system, but have competitive playlists which come with it maybe?

Noooo, I don’t like CE at all. Halo should be more like Halo 2 and 3 (in my own humble opinion of course).

All the Halo games have their ups and downs.

Personally, I’d love to see a mixture of all the Halo games (aside from Halo 4…) into one.
My thoughts:

  • The open world and slightly non-linear style of CE’s missions.
  • The explorability and secrets of Halo 2.
  • The amazing architecture and art style of Halo 3.
  • The music and atmosphere style of Halo 3: ODST (also Halo 2-3 music).
  • The diversity of Reach.
  • The… No I really can’t think of anything new Halo 4 brought to the table…
Given that, we’d get a masterful campaign. No one Halo game was perfect and each offered their strong points and ideas. Combine all of these points together and you’d get a pretty masterful expereince.

Just my opinion.

Writing, Characterization, connecting it to the novels

I wrote out an entire thing about why I though the writing and characterization were poor, but this definitely isn’t the place for that.

So I’ll just say this: It’s debatable…

Halo Ce was simply the best. I’d love for it to come back, but that is unlikely.

You’ve gone and mad me sad, OP.

CE was the greatest in it’s time but I actually hope that Halo Xbox One expands on Halo 4’s style but makes it massively bigger and better in all ways

Don’t be sad :open_mouth: but the feels

If it can do it well, I’m for it, at the moment I’d prefer something like CE, but I do enjoy Halo 4 almost as much as CE to be honest

Halo 2 PC didn’t have ranks, Halo 3’s Social playlists didn’t have ranks. Halo Reach didn’t have ranks outside of the one or two Arena playlists, and Halo 4 didn’t either up until a few months ago. Your point is… really moot.

Halo 2 PC wasn’t very popular, Halo 3 still had Ranked, and Halo Reach wasn’t very popular either.

I would like that :). I been playing halo sense the first game and is the best halo of all time ^-^. But as we know all halos are different. Maybe the base is but not the over all game

Yeah, I sort of mean use it as a base, like 2 and 3 went off in one direction from it, so did Reach and 4, maybe 343 could do something new while branching off from CE, but I’d love AI as good as CE’s again

I think Halo 5 needs to evolve from Halo 3.

I wouldn’t be surprised if half the reason Halo 2 PC didn’t sell well originally is because it required Vista.

I bought Halo 2 Vista a few years ago.

Sitting here thinking -Yoink- yeah, I’ll finally be able to play Halo 2 online, AND on new and custom maps.

It doesn’t work because of my OS.

I return it disappointed.

(part 1/2)

> Halo CE had a great campaign, it had a good bit of variety with levels, from The Pillar of Autumn to Silent Cartographer to The Library to Keyes, each level really stood out in its own way.

I felt it deviated a bit in the last three missions (pitting players against huge numbers of rocket launcher Flood was insane). As such, the last three missions are better suited for progressing story than their replay value. Whereas 343 Guilty Spark and The Library are actually decent. And of course, the first 5 missions feature unparalleled combat variety and replay value. This is in part due to the strong sandbox (despite the low number of weapons and vehicles), the awesome checkpoint system (repeating CPs, indefinite delaying, various delay methods, gaining CP from killing Hunters), and the amazing AI.

> The AI in Halo CE has been my favorite so far, it’s just great, on legendary they aren’t all super buffed up and just sponge all your bullets, if you die on legendary it’s your fault, you messed up, you were on equal grounds with the AI.

Amen.

And what’s more:

•your shields also benefited from playing on a higher difficulty. They recharged faster, in direct contrast to Halo 4 crippling Chief’s shield
•your strafe worked against Banshees, Needlers, etc. The former was not accurate while the latter was slow. In direct contrast to Halo 2 and Halo 4, where cover is essential and plasma is nearly unavoidable

> However some AI can be pretty scary, The Elite Zealot, the Hunters (well if you don’t have the god pistol or sniper), the Rocket Launcher Flood, etc.

Goldies were the best thing about CE IMO. You could manipulate them into killing their allies and Flood and bring them anywhere. Likewise Hunters. You could trick RL Flood into blowing up their comrades and exploit Flood jump, Flood Carrier deaths, etc.

So freaking true.

I liked how I didn’t need to read the novel to get a grasp of events.

Halo Xbox: better suited for casual play, I had some fun customs with my dad

Halo PC: better suited for competetive play, you really have to get to know your opponent’s strafe. Leading shots is really tough
