I think with the ones we do now (and IF new assassinations become available) certain assassinations-not necessarily all of them-should have a preventable fight/button we press.
I’m imagining a quick blow to the face, or some creative way to prevent the knife from impaling you.
Not really sure, but something no where near as easy it is to kill the dogs that attack you in Call of Duty games - I think it should be extremely difficult to pull this off, yet something that still is possible.
I think the point is they catch you off guard so you can’t defend yourself. Your teammates can still save you anyway. I had my broseph get tackled down for that assassination and I donkey punched the guy and got a show stopper. It was pretty hawwwwt.
As the way the franchise stands I’d say No, Leave it as it is. If 343i Decides to make a Halo with more of a RPG twist (Like Mass Effect) then I’d say yes as in a RPG you wouldn’t want some NPC assasinating you and not being able to prevent it.

They don’t always catch you off guard though. I’ve been in plenty of engagements where I was fighting one player, then saw the dot of another player coming up behind me. I was fully aware he was there, but because I don’t play on 10 sensitivity I wasn’t able to turn quick enough and he got the assassination. Hell if they gave you the option to do a spinning backkick I would do that instead. There are CURRENTLY martial arts which teach people how to defend against an attack from the rear; however these highly trained special forces known as Spartans have apparantly no training in hand to hand combat because when attacked from the rear they just sit there stunned and let it happen.
Keep in mind they’re in the middle of a combat scenario, bullets have already started flying. It makes no sense to be in that combat ready position, and have somebody turn you around and stab you, and during the entire time you’re turned around you make no effort to fight back.
Some of these assassinations are like watching a wrestling match, the victim makes no effort to fight back and just does whatever the aggressor wants them to do.
Sorry, I just can’t stand to watch somebody grab my spartan’s shoulder from behind, spin them around, watch the spartan stand there, then get a knife to the gut. When I was in the ARMY if somebody grabbed my shoulder I took a swing at them, this happened twice then people realized they should stop doing it, and that wasn’t even in a war zone with bullets flying.
I get that the player is supposed to get the reward from the assassination, I really do, but a select few of them could clearly be guarded against, and it breaks immersion for me.

This is a first person shooter, not Dragon Ball Z. And the phrase “a select few of them” would only break the game even more. I put effort to assasinate somebody, and then have to hope that the game randomly selects an assasination that can’t be prevented? No, that’s a terrible idea. If you want realism, go out to a war zone and you can spin around and counter attacks from the rear all you want.
The assassinations are broken anyway, I can’t tell you how many times I will be in the middle of an assassination on an incline, and it will stop and the other player just walks away…Needless to say, they still die from my gun.

Assassinations are pretty pointless as they are. The spartans move like old ladies. They should just make assasinations the length of back smacks, keep you in first person, but execute the assasinations really fast.
As it is now all assasinations do is reduce immersion and put you at extreme risk.

I’ve noticed this and it really makes me mad sometimes because they will run up a ramp I will do an assassination (it happens a lot more often with the tackle animation one) the enemy will just stand up look at me either try to run or kill me. This was especially annoying when i was getting my Assassin Master commendation
