I first saw one of his reviews about a year ago. I believe it was for Destiny. It definitely made me think a little more like an adult when it comes to video games. As I once used playing games with friends to hold on to childhood, I now view in a much more critical and negative way (unfortunately). I also agree with most opinions he has. His Destiny reviews are the best because they butthurt the fan boys so badly.

If anybody is trying to make money he instantly has complaints and tries to paint them as evil. I’ve only every unsubscribed to 2 people in my life, #1 is Onision and #2 is BDobbinsFTW
Not only is your view on bdobbins strawman, but it includes such unnecessary appeal to emotion. If people are going to work to support their families, then they need to work hard and smart. I shouldn’t take pity in a man who fails to properly fulfill his purpose simply because his wife and kids are living in a minimum wage income.

This game is coming from a studio that has produced 2 extreme shortcomings in the halo franchise, and there are many tweaks needed that are pretty darn important for halo 5. For example, the lack of content on launch which bdobbins agrees to, but he also points out a specific flaw about the content: it isn’t diverse enough. This goes to show how restricted and limited map design can be when trying to consider sprint in their decision.

You don’t have to buy a game to get educated on it. Download and play the demo, those are free, play the betas if you can. I rent games as well through gamefly if I want to try them out or I will watch different twitch streams so I can see the actual game play. Read different articles about the game.
I like sprint because it lets us have new abilities hinged on speed. His video makes some good points though I thought he would just hate on it.

To each his own. I find his reviews a lot more insightful than IGN’s, I’ve listened to both and played the game in question.

Of course, checking different sources is important to do when judging a game’s value, which is what I’ve done through waypoint complaints and simply watching gameplay. My rant was kinda based off a misunderstanding with you.
I never liked him as a youtuber, but after watching the video he posted. I say his review was fair and surprise he kept his cool and remain contrusted and positive while explaining some of the faults but not over extending it that’s a huge turn for the better. If he can stay that way for here on out then I can start respecting him more.
I disagree with him on the stupid"p2win" argument, if your running out of stuff for warzone then you play arena to get some points back and rebuy the packs to get some stuff back, even if you pay with real money for the packs it’s random and your not Garnette anything. If anything its luck2win. I’m fine with the req system although I felt like the armor should be separate and bought with req points so if a person just plays arena he doesn’t have all this weapons, vehicles ,etc he’s never going to use sense he plays arena.
BDobbins is solid. He has it mostly right when it comes to the industry at large. I don’t agree with his assessment of Halo 5 as his largest argument was Sprint and how it relates to map design and engagement and I love Sprint. Beyond that I respect his opinion and feel like it is a balanced review. As I said I think Halo 5 is perfect. I am not a fanboy by any stretch of the imagination. Halo 5 multiplayer is the first time I have really enjoyed Halo multiplayer because of the new combat and movement mechanics. The maps are beautifully designed and the level of play is high.
I am slowly getting better, although I will never catch up entirely. I am too old and my nerves and reflexes are not what they used to be. That said it hasn’t taken away my enjoyment at all and the slow improvement I am seeing in Arena makes me happy. I am not getting crushed as often as I was and am going positive on occasion now against other very high ranked players.
Halo 5 is the perfect Halo game for me. I understand it might not be for others. What I don’t understand is the constant complaining on these forums. Halo 5 has fundamentally changed Halo and it will never play how it did in prior games. Either play it or go back to MCC.

His ealier reviews. Those were the good ones.
Daily Reminder that this guy said the Halo CE Assault Rifle kills as fast as the CE pistol and the only reason this pistol was better was because of the scope…
That’s his level of credibility.

I’m skeptical of that claim, would need to see the full context of that quote.
Assuming he said that he’s not entirely wrong though.
Ce Magnum Headshots: 0.6s
Ce Magnum Bodyshots: 1.18s
Ce Assault Rifle: 1.02s

This bolded area is where you lost me. The amount of hypocrisy found in this comment is extremely aggravating to say the least. So you claim that you understand how the game may not be perfect for other people, yet you are frustrated for the complaints found in the forums. Even worse, you force these people who want the best for halo 5 to resort to TMCC, an extremely flawed and broken collection with so many shortcomings that 343 deserves to not be trusted for.
Also, your comment of “Halo 5 has fundamentally changed Halo and it will never play how it did in prior games” isn’t necessarily a good thing. While yes, the mobility like thrusters + ground pound along with the gun play and balancing are perfectly made, it does not make up for what was lost when 343 included sprint, and that was the diversity in map design. Nowadays, every map plays too similarly while bungie managed to create maps like Guardian, Lockout, Beaver Creek, Shrine, and so much more. There is a reason why we haven’t identified a classic map made by 343 and why they continuously base some maps off of classics, except with inflated size: their map design is heavily restricted due to the inclusion of sprint.
20:45 to 25:10 perfectly expresses my complaints about Sprint.
Brilliantly stated.
Usually don’t like his videos, but from what I watched this one was decent. One thing I can say is that REQ packs are in no way random (I mean they are, but hear me out). You may get a few lucky packs, but in order to get anything good you have to get rid of all the bronzes and most of the silver. So someone who has earned more REQ points will get better reps because they have removed the common and uncommon from the RNG pool. I haven’t seen one person actually get a mythic until their uncommon is at least clear, if not rare aswell. It’s a progression system still, it just forces you to unlock everything along the way.
For everybody who agrees with his views there is an equal amount who don’t as always personal choice.

I think you are misunderstanding my point. I’m not saying that YouTubers lie or don’t lie (and there is fair evidence to support that a number of them are less than truthful in how they come to their opinions) jus that big sites have more oversight so to declare them as liars is just as much an unfair assumption as saying that YouTubers are liars.
Additionally, you seem to be attributing more credence to what a YouTuber says because you specifically are looking for a more detailed and in-depth review. That’s fine, and also understandable, if that is what you want out of a review. For many though, its not necessary to go super in depth in their review. At the end of the day games are an entertainment product and any review is going to be highly subjective (for instance I note many of the “facts” that you list above in my review, however because of my enjoyment with the game I’m less critical of those aspects). Many people just want to know if the reviewer had a good time with it. (Also you are being super reductive of IGN’s reviews to try and make your point and it just makes you seem petty).
You seem to be gravitating towards certain YouTubers because they validate your opinion, also understandable because that is what most people utilize reviews for today, but it doesn’t make their reviews any more or less reliable and useful than a big sites review if someone else isn’t looking for the same things as you from the review.

It has definitely happened before, but the OP is referring to his review of halo 5, which is far from the complaints he has previously received.
