Bayonets should not exist in Halo

I strongly believe bayonets have no place in Halo. With other power ups you can get like camo and overshields, the one hit absolute is ridiculous. You can even just wait around a corner for someone. Swords are perfect for that but you can’t load out with them, it’s still a power weapon. Bayonets have no place in the Halo universe and I hope they are not in Halo 6.

As long as they stay in a warzone like setting I wouldn’t care. Also just use your advanced shields then it’s not a one hit kill for them.

or just get in a vehicle with wheelman equipped. It’s hard to melee an opponent that’s in a vehicle

Don’t play that broken mess of a mode called Warzone, problem solved

It adds to the chaos of WZ, which was the whole point. They’re fine.

I like how it’s so conveniently ignored that weapons with Energy Bayonets are all level 8 Reqs.

I think for the bayonets they could add a separate ammo/energy counter with only 5 swings/kills in it. That way its just a normal energy sword with only half of its ammo/energy instead of its current infinite energy sword.

Wouldn’t make much of a difference. I can just get a fresh bayonet when I go to a req station.

I had an idea for bayonets having a 2 min cooldown like, every kill drops 10% of the Energy, once depleted it’ll act like a normal melee until it recharges

Kill them with The Answer

2 minutes is too long for a shooter like Halo. A 5-10 second recharge after each kill would make more sense.

No worse than someone running around with shotgun. If they get that close you’re probably going to die anyway.

The shotgun requires ammo though.

That goes back to OP’s point: shotgun isn’t a loadout item. It’s a REQ. It runs out of ammo. Bayonet does not. I think a better comparison would be an Energy Sword. One hit kill, runs out of “ammo”, you can couple it with camo (or use Prophet’s Bane), it’s not attached to your weapon so you can’t hit then one-shot real quick (in the case of the Knight Blade).

It just seems silly to me in the Halo universe that there are these imposing Elites with Energy Swords (often in camo) who can wreck anything (remember them in CE? Scary stuff), but now Spartans have flippin’ Light Sabers coming out of their Battle Rifles, with UNLIMITED POWER!!! that can also shoot bullets and we’ve now rendered the Energy Sword obsolete. Now they can just put Light Sabers on their Storm Rifles & Carbines and be done with it. Grunts can melee now, too, so give them Light Sabers on their Needlers. It’s silly.

And on a more subjective note: it looks dumb too. But then again, I don’t like using weapon skins (except Sharktooth Grin & Clash) nor do I use AR’s with scopes. A Halo AR with a scope on it just looks wrong. All kinds of wrong. I don’t care what perk comes with it, it looks wrong. And this goes back to Reach, and yeah, I’ve accepted it’s a different model, but I don’t have to like it. lol

I think those are like req level 8. I never even bother with them that late in the game. When I play, I just don’t see them being used that often with the exception of WZ Turbo. If they have it unlocked “everyone’s” equipped with em’…lol. Like I said if they get that close to me (meaning they snuck up on me) I’m usually going to die whether they have one or not…lol.

By the time REQ Level 8 comes around, you should be able to have a 1 hit kill item. Notice that these are all 1 level HIGHER than the Nornfang and Gavel. A simple defense to the bayonets is the stronger shield (or increased strength can’t remember)armor mod, prevents 1 hit kills. Again though, these are REQ level 8s, the same as a Phaeton Helios

I think the bayonets are fannnnntastic! I love how you can be a one man army at times with the bayonet, especially when you need to do something strategic. Not sure what the balancing problem is though, considering how overpowered and unbalanced the other high level reqs are in war zone. From my personal experience in warzone, players that complain about the bayonet normally rush in with no strategy or team work. In any case, you probably also have a bayonet, just use yours back, problem solved.

People play this game to have fun, if that includes camping with a bayonet, good for them. I have raged out plenty of times because of warzone farming for wins or kills, im not worried about bayonets over phaeton Helios, norn fang, hannibal wasp ex ex ex.

Well, they are incredibly useful. In Firefight, equip camo, overshield, and have the Knight Blade on your weapon of choice, then hack away at a Promethean Knight … it’ll do some serious damage. I just think they’re silly in terms of canon & lore and making the energy sword useless. Also they’re very OP in PvP with camo traps, but I don’t play a lot of Warzone (unless I’m with a bunch of friends, then it’s fun), but it doesn’t make a lot of sense to cash in your energy swords when you have an unlimited one that shoots bullets as a loadout. But then again, that’s level 8, so … whatevs.

I haven’t played halo 5 in a while so I could be wrong but I remember the energy swords having a longer range and a energy sword will always kill a bayonet if they both have full health. Plus the bayonets are lvl 8 reqs and not in arena so I think they are just fine.

… hence the comments about upgraded shields. Or upgraded thrusters if you prefer, or just about anything else that’s available late-game.
Again, this is a level 8 REQ, which means you’re late in the game, which means everything is OP & has a counter.
It doesn’t make any sense to compare a late-game weapon to a basic-level sword; a higher level sword by comparison would still “wreck anything.”
It’s not as simple as saying one is a REQ item and one is loadout, because all of them are stronger at the late game, it’s all relative.

Upgraded shield is the armor mod that protects against bayonets (and snipers except nornfang and delta). I agree though that by the time the enemy has a bayonet, you should be able to call something in to counter it in most cases.
